Hi All,
Just looked out the front of our house just now as an Olympic A340 was about to land–is this a new size aircraft on this route-normally a 737 is on this pm each day from Athens?
Cannot find it in my LGW timetable–but the BAA site shows it returning at 12.00 today–good if not cloudy–:o can see it go again as all Dover deps go past the back of the house!!
Often see a LHR A340 in the afternoon of Olympic-nice to see another big plane at LGW!!

It certainly climbed up at an amazing rate of knots on the way back(sky was lovely and blue!) maybe was empty!
Sorry about the maths lesson Josh-the comment was aimed at you as you seem to have a wealth of knowledge about GATWICK!!–wont be long before you can leave school and spot planes all day LOL:)

and olympics’ a340 are very comfy too in economy class
nice wide seats, loadsa leg room 34 inches and u get a hot meal free…
if you r goin to ATH on yr hols and u can get a good deal on a fare then the OA a340 is super…
the crews sometimes are abit starchy but a smile does wonders!

I think its a planned equipment change, becuase the same thing is happening at Manchester on the 6, 15, 20, 22 and 29th March. The usual 734 is upgrading to the A340-300 – Manchester spotters/photographers – be prepared! 😎
EDIT: RE: previous post. fair enough, perhaps just a football flight. Anyhoo, the A340 is turning up at Man nonetheless.

It operated as OAL4271/2 in addition to the usual 734 (OAL271/2). I don’t know of one visiting before other than on a diversion or something. I assumed it was something to do with the Chelsea vs Olympiakos game tomorrow.
Cheers

Perhaps due to the fact that ferries and internal flights in Greece have been closed down for a few days due to the weather so now there’s more people, too many for a 737, coming home?
