Any seasoned traveller will tell you it pays to keep your seat belt loosely fastened during flight in case of CAT

I don’t think it’s fair to assume all passengers are that thick, people need to undo their belts occasionally to let people get past them or when they need to take a pit stop. And what about the cabin crew who are on their feet 99% of the trip, do they get special compensation for having their heads slammed into the roof or is that just included in the risk assessment?

Seen it so many times. Other passengers have even told me,you can take your seatbelt off now.Is it your first flight?
I say no thats why I keep it on having been on more than 1,000 flights.
If it was safe the pilots would take theirs off.

Now what the airlines should do is include the news reel clips in the Safety Briefing. It might just help hammer home the fact that if you’re sitting; belt up.

Lifted from Pprune  (Thread : Amusing and curious incidents as a passenger)

BA flight AMS to LHR, a stormy winter evening in 2006.

Everyone on board, captain comes on the PA. PAX are no doubt expecting the usual announcement in plummy home counties tones that the flight will take x minutes, safety is our priority blah blah.

Instead he asks that those of us with a Daily Mail should turn to page 5 and read the report about the Virgin aircrew and pax recently injured when a plane encountered severe turbulence over the Atlantic. “This is why”, he says in a rather irritated tone, “we ask you to keep your seatbelts fastened at all times when seated”.

Unorthodox, but the cabin crew’s safety demo received a lot more attention than usual

When will passengers listen, keep the seat belt fastened at ALL TIMES? No sympathy for deaf people who know better.

Completely agree. Although it’s impossible to keep you’re seat belt fastened all the time as you have to go to the toilet and stretch you’re legs.

Passengers think there safe as soon as they’ve taken off, when it reality it’s probably more dangerous in the air than on the ground. Even if you’re going to sleep, just loosen the belt as much as possible and if you hit CAT or bad turbulence you’re still going to stay in you’re seat.

Wow, that’s a shock. Any word on what was the cause of the incident?
