Sounds like a small aircraft was involved, possibly a Yak-40 ? I saw several of them in Kiev when I last visited…

Passenger Jet Crashes Near Kiev
Updated:16:57, Sunday December 09, 2007At least five people have been killed after a passenger plane crashed in the Ukraine.
The aircraft, which was on a chartered flight, came down as it was preparing to land at Kiev’s second largest airport.
The plane had been flying from the Czech Republic to Zhulyany airport just outside Ukraine’s capital.The site is around 20 minutes drive from the city centre and is close to residential areas.
It is not known if there were any survivors.
An emergency ministry spokesman confirmed the crash but would give no further details.
