What to do in LHR?

I have flown to LHR many times, but not with such a long free time (five hours waiting). Going to London is an option. I am getting to STN at 12:40 and going to LHR for a 20:55 flight to Athens. So i will feed up of my IPOD, feed up of reading and walking around the shops. Any idea?. Any nice place for spotting?.

The roof spectator area between T1 and 2 is not an option, the Visitor Centre is not an option. Both are closed. The VIP lounge costs a lot.

What could I do without spending too much money. I will be flying BA 767, and a bit concerned. I now it´s a safe plane, well mainteined, but I have checked that they are ageing.

I would prefer a newer B777, or Airbus type, but………I can´t choose  😡

Back again. All pretty smooth despite taking off in drizzling conditions. The plane doesn´t look too tired. But yes, the inflight entretainment got broken in the middle of the flights.

Lovely meal and efficient crews. I love BA. Whole day in city centre, shopping.

“One could never imagine flying to europe in anything less than first. You must need a good wash afterwards! What twaddle not to use spiffing British Airways First Class. Rar Rar”

Aside from the fact Club is the highest class offered in Europe, the same IFE system sadly plays throughout the aircraft irrespective of class.

I have investigated what AVOD is. Am I getting one of these?. Sounds really exciting.

No, you are not.

You are getting a small CRT monitor in the aisle that flickers on and off throughout the flight, accompanied by the worst analogue sound quality heard this side of the ’80s.

Sorry. 🙁

The interior and IFE have recently been updated and there are a few teething troubles with the on demand T.V’s but the big tin bit that surround it Is fine!

LOL! AVOD to Athens. Not unless you are really really really lucky!

The interiors of the aircraft you will be flying have not been updated since purchase from the looks of things, and certainly not this millenium.

No need to worry about the 767. It’s a fine Aeroplane. They are getting on a bit (16+ years old) but BA’s maintenance is second to non. Ageing is only a problem when the aircraft are not looked after.

As for things to do around LHR, basicaly all of the above! Obviously lurking around the perimiter and in car parks should be undertaken with care.
Just a warning, getting back through security for your flight will be a pain, allow LOADS of time for this. I came through security in T1 on friday and it took me half an hour cueing just to get to the X-ray machine.

Visitor center car park isnt though. Thats were most spotters seem to go, just get a bus(20 i think) from central bus station to renassance hotel. Doesnt cost anything.

I’d wander around London for a few hours, grab some lunch, and then head down to LHR to hang out at Hatton Cross until it gets dark.

There aren’t any decent VIP Lounges you can pay into in T1 anyway, so don’t bother with that. If I were you (and had checked in online and had no bags to check) I’d try and get to the terminal no earlier than an hour before the flight, which should fit in nicely with you getting a 1930 bus or thereabouts back from Hatton Cross.

The BA 767s are in a bit of a state at the moment, the TV screens rarely work and half the interior is held together with gaffer tape. However the state of the interior and exterior are very different. Putting aside the

Go plane spotting, get of at Hatton Cross tube station (one station before LHR) and that’s it.
