Air Berlin axe BHD-STN

Air Berlin are pulling the plug on their STN to BHD flights from 29th October 2007 according to local press.

Big loss as now only easyJet to STN 🙁 I always thought AB flights had a good load factor, the ones I went on (off peak) did!

I heard Air Berlin will drop MAN-STN too, have used it before, good service, but not very busy. Eastern Airways did do that route before, I wonder if they will go back. No northwest connection to Stansted now, Ryanair dropped BLK-STN. Liverpool has no London link anymore, now VLM have finished, they couldn’t compete with the rail service, and I understand BMI may chop MAN-LHR. The rail now from the northwest to Euston is good, but if you want to connect onwards from a London airport, flying is still easier.

Air Berlin may have been better offering LPL-STN than MAN, less competition than MAN-LON with flights to LGW/LHR and LCY.

I imagine the greatest problem for them is that if the aircraft slated for a domestic service is doing an early morning arrival into STN from Germany and is delayed, it means they are likely to experience delays for most of that aircraft’s services that day as they try to play catch-up. Far easy to drop the routes and allow a bit of room for padding out the schedules to allow for any accrued delays during the day.

GLA-STN is also going despite it being very successful, especialy for onward flights to DUS, there is hope AB will launch GLA-DUS direct.

The flights are being axed due to BAA upping the charges at STN and AB aint happy about it, so they have axed all there domestic STN routes, plus a few routes to Germany.

Hearing a rumor that AB’s rates being charged by BHD were raised to try and entice them out to make way for Ryanair as this frees up a 737 stand (we only have 2 other than bmi’s own stand)

There were around 80 pax inbound on Manchester’s inbound flight last night
from Stansted.Excellent flight and immaculate Aircraft(A320).

Shame they are axing the service.:(

Word is that Air Berlin are ditching all of their UK internal services to Stansted.

The MAN – STN route is certainly for the chop.
