Round the world trip advice?

Hi all,

Am thinking of doing a round the world trip, but would like some advice from any fellow forum members; am wondering if anyone has done anything similar?

I have had a look at both the OneWorld & Star Alliance’s web pages for information, but dont know which would be the best to go with, and how I should go about booking it?

What is the best routing/destinations?

Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated.

As well as the Star and One World tickets there is also the VS/SQ/NZ thing called “The Great Escapade”. This would seem to fit pretty well with your trip, but as pointed out earlier backtracking to Asia may not be permitted. The general rule with RTWs is that you can go where you like as long as you keep going in broadly the same direction. Have fun!

Thanks for all the helpful advice.

This how it is shaping up so far…

LONDON-Dubai-Singapore-Auckland-Sydney-Kuala Lumper-Hong Kong-Tokyo-Vancouver-San Francisco-New York-LONDON

…so what do you think?

IMO, I feel that theres a big gap between London and Dubai. Why miss out on some of the cities that are between the two? Also, is it necessary to go backwards i.e. Auckland – Sydney – Kuala Lumpur? Is it not more logical to go the other way?

Beirut should also be on your list of cities to visit….

If it were me, I would opt for the cheapest flights. There seems little point choosing one alliance over another unless you hold some sort of frequent flyer card. I would definitely recommend consulting the Flight Centre before making a booking. The staff are extremely knowledgable and will beat any price that you throw at them, whether it be from another travel agent or from the internet. They booked my latest flights for me and I was thrilled with the service.

Cant remember much of antigua anymore though:o But in Sri Lanka theres things to do such as, Yala National Park, Sigarya Rock, Dambula Caves and all the Nice cities. Personally I find Star Alliance better for support and points! I think their website lets you configure routes RTW?
