Well the weekend is seeing quite a lot of orders for the Airlines and boeing , a PR opp. for sure just before the rollout (get last minute paint logos on 787 tail)..
20 for QF
25 for Air Berlin
10 for ALAFCO
1 787BBJ
2 for Uzbekistan Airways
5 for CIT
The magic number of 700 has been reached once all these orders are firmed up (probably by wednesday) but most have allready been firmed. The 787-8 is now the second highest selling widebody varient ever in history of widebodies !
Also James Wallace SpI is reporting that QR’s logo is going to be on the 787 tail when it rolls out , virtually confirming that the 30 787 UFO was for QR as he had claimed earlier . Lets see , very interesting 24 hours to follow !

Leahy is a dick, I tend to ignore everything that comes out of the man’s mouth.
The guys I know work for, or worked for, Airbus are all pretty enthusiastic and pleased about the 787 – its the first big step forward for commerical design in the 2nd century of flight (and its a mighty big step).

lets see what gallois does , he seems a well mannered person so i expect a mature response from him .
And he doesnt dissapoint me –
On behalf of the global Airbus team, I would like to offer you and your Boeing colleagues our congratulations on the rollout of your first 787 aircraft. Today is a great day in aviation history. For, whenever such a milestone is reached in our industry, it always is a reflection of hard work by dedicated people inspired by the wonder of flight. Even if tomorrow Airbus will get back to the business of competing vigorously, today is Boeing’s day – a day to celebrate the 787

Thats great sportsmanship from him and shows the actual nature of airbus as an engineering – manuf. company praising a fellow company on a good product . Now if only he can get some scotch tape and shut his CFO’s mouth for sometime!
When will the first 787 arrive to a UK Airline.
I think it would be First Choice , the First 2 would be delivered in 2009 and the remaining 10 would be delivered between 2010-2013.

Our production people are saying Boeing is ramping up too fast and will stumble,” said John Leahy, chief operating office for Airbus
Gosh I woke up so early in the morning for this stupid comment !!!
Anyways Are these production people by any chance the same dudes that are working on the A380? Are they the same chaps that told Leahy in the past that boeing could not get the 787 to work unless the find ” NEW LAWS OF PHYSICS” or the ones that maybe told him that boeing cannot produce the 787 to its specs and will be going back and making an aircraft that ” HAS LESS THEN 30% composites” . Maybe these are the ones that belong to the group which lead leahy to beleive the Monolithic CFRP barrels are “OLD FASHIONED” ?? I dont know . This guy is a great salesman , but he has about as much credibility when it comes to the 787 dreamliner as Baghdad Bob had when it came to the Republican guard’s fight against US and UK troops (or the lack of it ) .
But he is smart , he has used this opp. to get media attention and amidst the million dollar DREAM WEAKEND that boeing had planned for the media , its suppliers and customers he has absolutely made a fool of himself . That is no small task !!
Boeing were much more classy when it came to the A380 , they called it a great acheivment of engineering , congratulated the people who worked on it . They did disagree and made statements that they didnt beleive that the aircraft had a big enough market but they didnt attack the project (troubled project by the way) they didnt talk about airbus having troubles or what not . They were classy , lets see what gallois does , he seems a well mannered person so i expect a mature response from him . But i guess it could be hard to fathom a program that before even rollout has sold 700 and counting , and may well sell close to 1000 aircaft by EIS .

…. given it is very new technology like the A380, it might possibly be delayed for things such as wiring etc? After all it aint flown yet….
Anyway well done Boeing!
Compared to the A380, the 787 is new technology….
BTW: the A380 has 350 miles of wiring, the 787 “just” 60.
In their statements, Boeing leadership seem to have been very cautious, just saying that they’ll meet their targets. They seem to know that there are a lot of potential problems still out there but they’re confident that they’re on track.
I agree with Bemused55, Leahy’s comments are a stupid cheap shot ond will only fuel the Airbus partisans open dislike of Boeing and Boeing fans dislike/distrust of Airbus.

Virgin orders eight more Boeings

Looks like Boeing are well on there way to selling 100 787’s this weekend . Also a rumour this afternoon at a lunch i attended was that AI was looking to exerc. its options for the 787 . Another rumour although not pretaining directly to the 787 was that LH have chosen the A350 and will not be going in for hte 787 But BA looks like its in boeing’s bag.
Its just a shame that instead of being a big boy and congratulating Boeing on their stellar success thus far, loud mouth Leahy took a cheap and unqualified shot at them today:
“Our production people are saying Boeing is ramping up too fast and will stumble,” said John Leahy, chief operating office for Airbus.
Pot, Kettle, Black. I mean, really, can you get any more arrogant? I know PR is his job, but saying things like that while still standing knee deep in the puddle of his own company’s dire mismanagement and delays is begging to be laughed at.

“Boeing Annouced Buy One Get Nine Free on Dreamliners”
Only joking – shows it must be a robust product in the airlines opinions. I wonder if, given it is very new technology like the A380, it might possibly be delayed for things such as wiring etc? After all it aint flown yet….
Anyway well done Boeing!
