Saw this Air Berlin A.320, D-ANND at Stuttgart today and noticed an unusual addition on the top of the fuselage. Is this part of an entertainment system or communications system? This is an ex JetBlue Airways plane and they all seem to have the same attachment. Incidentally, this plane is now flying in an all white scheme, no titles although originally painted Air Berlin, does this mean it is going to move on?

So what is the name of the manufacturer of the ‘bump’ mod?

Yes it is a satellite reciever for Jetblue’s Satellite TV service, and very good it is too!
Indeed, you can even tune in to CBS News live and watch as your imminent death is filmed from every conceivable angle ! 😉

Yes it is a satellite reciever for Jetblue’s Satellite TV service, and very good it is too! Had the pleasure of using them for a quick Long Beach – Oakland last summer and they were superb. Brilliant being able to watch what you want and makes the flight go so quick!

I believe it’s a satellite receiver for the IFE, although I could well be wrong! I’ve seen a similar thing on a good few long haul widebody aircraft as well.
