Thats an amazing video.

I think a light bit of turbulence can be fun, Im fortunate enough to never have expierenced anything bad.

Three hours of severe turbulence on a Philadelphia-Gatwick flight whilst we riding the jetstream. We left PHL about an hour late and still got into Gatwick early but it was rough, extremely rough and very frightening.

And what made it worse for me and my brother was that we were sitting in the third back row in a 767 so we felt the turning motion round the axis of the wings. The crew strapped themselves into the nearest seats to where they were standing and shackled the trolleys as best they could.

It wasn’t so much through as it was around a thunderstorm. Still, a very impressive light show they had going on there. I’m sure flying around in a fuel tanker in lightning has got to make you a bit worried.

I once flew around the outskirts of a cyclone while crossing the Pacific from Honolulu to Sydney aboard a Continental 747 back in the eighties… and believe me it got very rough indeed even the cabin crew looked scared

(I think a light bit of turbulence can be fun, Im fortunate enough to never have expierenced anything bad.)

There are a number of injuries every year through turbulence.
I have travelled on up 110 flights in 1 year alone and I dont like it.
You never know how bad it can become. Sometimes gentle undulations, other times as though huge rocks are hitting the aircraft.
On one occaision a colleague was on a flight in Asia and the drinks trolley hit the roof and came back down on top of the stewardess. She was very badly injured.I was on one flight when we hit unexpected turbulence and the cabin crew had to throw themselves on the deck spreadeagled trying to hang on to the seat frames with great difficulty.
When you travel a lot, you learn to respect mother nature.

There was a thread on prune I think a few weeks ago called Mountain Wave.
I think it was over the Pyrenees. The turbulence was so bad, pilots were loosing control. They were scared so I cannot imagine the passengers having fun.

It surprises me when passengers think turbulence and storms are fun.
They should ask themselves why this scares the hell out of the pilots.
Maybe it`s because turbulence in the form of a microburst for example can tear the wings off a 747.
I once read some comments from a pilot and he described his job. He said flying is hours of boredom intermixed with moments of shear terror.
