Well ive just phoned up servis air to get some feedback.
There reasons:
We felt we needed some one with more experience and the numbers had been cut down,.
Go for ramp agent or something. You get paid for sitting around 4 hours out of 8 anyway.
Even in training, you’re there for 6 hours, get paid for 9!

What we basically do is meet the a/c on arrival, get the fuel figures of the Captain/FO, radio these back to base. Then we have to check what are called the loadplans and loadsheets, which print off once the a/c has landed. We have to ensure all the figures are correct, take these to the flight deck who then check it again and sign it. We then communicate with the cabin crew who give us the all clear for when they are ready for boarding, which we then communicate to the PSA’s. We then hang around make sure everyone is onboard, receive the ‘bingo cards’ from the loaders (Which basically shows which bags are on the flight, this again must be correct). We then have to communicate with the captain to give him the all clear, and then the a/c goes! There is much more to it, but that is a basic overview. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the info 🙂

Glad that your enjoying your job, infact you were the Dispatcher for my flight from Aberdeen last friday (13th).
I noticed that you were on that flight, and tried to work out if I did dispatch it or not! That was one of my competency checks to make sure I could do the job on my own. Am I right in thinking it went on time? ;).
Not too sure about grades but a dispatcher ( I think ) is someone who makes sure everyone is on board and that the a/c is clear to go. Or ( again I think ) it’s someone who directs the pilot on when to turn etc.

Unlucky Luke, i’m sure something else will come along. 🙂

As a couple of people on this forum already know, I recently started working as a Dispatcher with Servisair up at LBA. I have only been doing this job on my own for 3 days, but I love it, and so far the company seem perfectly reasonable even if the pay isn’t the best!

As far as a PSA goes with them, you seem to get good variety doing check in, meeting and boarding. Good luck, Luke, and if your interview is anything like mine you have nothing to worry about! Mine was just an informal chat.
BTW – I am writing this from Sunny Malta, the resort of Buggiba even though I am staying in St. Julians! I flew over with KM out of MAN on Monday, and the flight was OK, even if some of the safety procedures (Not checking seatbacks etc prior to departure, and barely dimming the lights on landing at night!).

Alot of people will try and put you off saying they are a rotten company to work for. Ive worked with them now for 2 years 😮 How times flies and I love every minute of it.
Ive done check in and now do baggage tracing. If you get a oppourtunity to do baggage jump at it, its great.
Good luck Im sure you wont have any problems.

And our old reliable, Wiki, which in this case needs a complete rewrite, so good luck with the interview and maybe you can rewrite their history!

Off the top of my head Servisair handle all of the EZY, FR and MYT flights from NCL.
Do yourself a favour and concentrate on dazzling them with customer service experience and skills rather than tell them who they handle. I’m sure 99% of the guys arn;t into commercial aviation like you are.
Apart from that; look smart and be on time. Basics!

If airlines have the same ground handling for all the airports that they operate into, I know that:
FlyBE are handled by Servisair, as are Thomsonfly, Air France, Jet2, Ryanair.
However, I know this from Servisair looking after these airlines at other UK airports, so I don’t know if it’s the same for Newcastle.Good Luck for your interview. 🙂
Nope, some airlines are handled by different companies at different airports. Out of them airlines perhaps only Thomsonfly are handled by Servisair nationwide. Jet2 were handled by Swissport last time i visited NCL
Stick to what you know for sure LL, being enthusiastic and keen to work in the aviation industry should be a huge advantage. Also have answers for the usual “What would you do if you saw something unsafe, if a manager asked you to do something unsafe etc”
Good luck
