Suprised no-one has already mentioned this, but according to a report in the Sunday Times Business section yesterday, Delta Airlines’s CEO, Gerald Grinstein has announced that his airline has accquired slots at Heathrow in order to launch services when the newly agreed ‘open skies’ comes into effect!
They managed to obtain these slots by negotiating with their European partner airlines Air France and KLM, and are expected to launch a twice daily service to New York and once daily service to Atlanta from April 2008.
It has not yet been disclosed which airline [Air France or KLM], will provide the slots for Delta, but it is expected that both airlines will code-share on these flights, thus meaning that it will also be the first time that airlines from the Continent will have their codes on services from Heathrow to the US.
There has been no reaction from BA/Virgin since this announcement was made…however an analyst has said that with the number of airlines that are now looking at the possibilities of entering the US market from Heathrow could mean that “BA’s profitability could be reduced by some 25-53%!”
Any comments/opinions welcomed…

Well for a start the DL attitude to passengers and staff is all wrong they treat the like ****. Like a few weeks ago when NYC was snow bound both DL and CO cancelled their flights. CO provided hotels etc DL said come back tommorow.
DL dont seem to bother to much with rules. If passengers get bumped from flights they send their bags anyway. We had about 100 bags in DUB over the weekend when the passengers were still in JFK.
Myabe this is just a I dont really like DL rant but my advise is stay away from DL and LHR because when things go wrong in LHR they go real wrong.

I can assure you its not 1 incident that brings me to this conclusion.
I work with Delta everyday in work and compared with CO,AA who I also work with DL are a nightmare.
Care to elaborate!!

As a frequent Delta flyer ( I wouldn’t say I’m a fanboi or anything, just their quotes have always been cheapest) I can honestly say we’ve never really had any problems, aside from a 3 hour delay that stemmed from an MD-11 going down with a technical fault on us for the return Atlanta-Manchester leg back in 1999.
I’m pretty confident, that because they can cope with their operations at Atlanta-Hartsfield and New York JFK, then I’m sure they’re upto the challenge of operating through Heathrow too.

Delta and LHR put together is a nightmare waiting to happen. Delta ops into DUB this last weekend were a disaster and a nightmare and I say that from a staff point of view.
Id be reluctant to fly with DL but DL from LHR 😮 not worth thinking about.
Your basing that on one incident? it’s not like airlines don’t have bad days.
