Looks good. This thread is sort of related to the Ryanair ‘long-haul’ one.
Gatwick to JFK from £129. Also announced is a route from London to Bermuda.

A price war for budget transatlantic flights could be on the cards after an airline said it would offer a London to New York service for £129 one-way.
The carrier, Zoom, will begin flights from London Gatwick on 21 June.In addition, budget airline Ryanair has said it is now eyeing a transatlantic service within three to four years, with flights from 10 euros (£6.80).
The news comes ahead of an “open skies” deal allowing more US-Europe flights from March 2008.
‘Good availability’
Zoom, which already operates from five UK airports to Canada, said it aimed to become the UK’s leading budget transatlantic carrier by undercutting the likes of BA and Virgin Atlantic.
Co-owner Hugh Boyle, the Scottish entrepreneur who started the firm with his brother John, told the BBC that more than 25% of seats would be available at the lowest price.
“It’s across the board on all dates. It’s not a low season date, it’s not just if you go in November or on a Tuesday.
“Every flight on every date will have a good availability of seats at £129.”
Passengers will be able to upgrade for £99, the airline said.
The past year has seen the launch of three business class-only airlines – Silverjet, EOS and Maxjet – flying between London and New York.

Bear in mind that £85+ of the £129 is tax and airport charges. You have £40 APD plus the other Gatwick departure charges; and most of the American taxes are charged on arrival (and there are an awful lot of them).
By comparing Oasis’ £75 one-way to HKG with Zoom’s £129 to JFK, you are not comparing apples with apples. Oasis’ £75 fare is before taxes and the actual price you pay for a one-way LGW-HKG is £152.30. Zoom’s £129 fare LGW-JFK includes taxes and the price you pay is £129.
It’s also not easy to get anything below £450 return on the big airlines between LON and NYC during July and August.

£129 FOR A ONE-WAY TRIP! 😮
And to think that you can fly from LGW to Hong Kong on OASiS Hong Kong Airlines for approx £75 (if you book early enough!), which is a 12-13hr flight each way, £129 for a one-way trip to New York seems ridiculously expensive for what you get!

£129 is one way, £258 return is not very good really, given they are offering a low cost service. They will have to do better than that to temp me from the more established carriers, FF points, AVOD, booze, and connecting flights are just some to the things I like!
I was thinking exactly the same. £258 return isn’t really very competitive. Even Virgin Atlantic had New York fares for as little as £194 recently.

Zoom is a well run airline. They are very prudent in their expansion plans. They’ve competed well against Air Canada and British Airways on routes between Canada and the UK. I know a lot of people who have travelled with them and there were no major complaints (outside of the leg room issue).
