Further to my thread about going to St Maarten, I have now decided that it is too expensive, and so I am looking to go somewhere within Europe that is spotter friendly and offers good spotting/photographic opportunities.
AMS or ZRH were too potential destinations, but I was wondering if anyone has any other suggestions.
The only thing to bear in mind is that I was proposing to treat myself and my friend to a business class upgrade as a suprise to my friend who will be celebrating his 21st birthday, so the destination has got be served by an airline that offers a business class service, and the destination has also got to be far away enough for us to make best use of the business class service!
Many thanks.

I say AMS or maybe DUS in that case, not very long flights in business class though? Maybe you’d like a trip to Lanzarote ? Sun, sea and some very nice approaches over the beach a la St Maarten ?
Are the any scheduled flights to Lanzarote though ?
If I had to choose between AMS and DUS I’d go for AMS. After 14:00 DUS really gets dull, and the sun gets in the wrong angle. This is not a problem at AMS. It does get more quiet after 14:00, but still busy enough. And at least at AMS there are plenty of other spots to go when the sun turns, whereas at DUS you are stuck to the terraces. Also, the Kaagbaan is gonna close sometime this year/early next so take your chance to get there! It is easy enough by bus. If coming on a saturday I am usually able to drive by if announced somewhat in advance.

I’m seriously looking into spending at least a week in Lanzarote this autumn, maybe around late September – early October, as my new job says I am not supposed to take any holidays during my first six month probation period!
Anyone up for a mega ACE meet/**** up at that time? 😉

I would guess BA operated by GB Airways or something have flights to ACE?

Thanks Ren Frew for the suggestion, will look further into flights to LAX, but I think I am more than likely to stick with Europe now. May consider LAX in the future though…
Does anyone know which airport within Europe is the best for spotting? I assume it is AMS, unless someone cares to correct me?

I would go with the first…LAX followed by LAS or MCO.
MCO would also allow you to spend a few days at Orlando International and maybe one day at Orlando Sanford.

He lives in England, and wants a decent length flight to take advantage of C class…

No offence, Skiathos might be a great place to holiday and spot, but for out and out traffic, the Greek Islands are never going to be the busiest, and SKG with the very short runway certainly isn’t! Places like that have certain days where they are quite busy and certain days where they are absolutely dead. I have been to Zante and Corfu which are busier than Skiathos, and found that to be the case.
I would have to agree with you on this point LBARULES…sorry, no offence CAZ66! I think SKG would be better in the summer, unfortunatley I my friends b’day is on 9th Feb, so we are trying to get a few days either side of this date…

Why not try the USA, LAX is very nice ! Affordable business class with Aer Lingus ex LHR/DUB.

A good place to go is the greek island of skiathos.
It gets heavy traffic on wednesday’s and fridays during the holiday season. Mainly charters,
Its worth doing as you can get right behind the jets as they take off , it also has the smallist runway for international flights in europe.
Secruity is not a problem at all i ve been there and done it sevral times.
The two videos were takern last time i was there.
