Direct flights to HKG from MAN

hey all

I’m doing a little research project into flights from Manchester to Asia at Uni, and was wondering if anyone knows anything about MAN – HKG direct flights. I know Cathay had a service which was withdrawn a while ago and I think they began work on restarting the service a couple of years ago – why didnt it come around?

So why arent there any direct services to HKG from MAN – is it a simple case of not enough demand or is there red tape in the way?

Ive looked on the net at flight intl archive articles but they dont provide enough information. can anyone point me in the right direction?

thanks

As far as I can remember CX wanted to operate a service from HKG to MAN via SVO but the Russians werent having any of it!

Don’t think it was Russians objecting. Might have been a British airline (but not BA ) Flight duration would be much, much worse operating MAN-SVO-HKG than MAN-LHR-HKG but this is where the “hidden hand of BA” comes in….they’d prefer it that way, rather than have a 2 or 3 weekly non-stop MAN-HKG service operating by CX which has the possibility of affecting the codesharing on MAN-LHR (assuming CX remember to promote the MAN service, unlike last time round when they concentrated on the shuttle codeshare whilst still operating thier metal to MAN!)
