The only good thing about that Visitor’s Centre was the McDonald’s behind it. As previously mentioned, the action was taking place quite a way in front – with a busy road and a line of trees between runway 27L/9R and the spectators.

Even if it was going to re-open, I doubt I would ever pay it another visit.

I didn’t even think it was that fantastic for plane spotting! Sure, you could get most of the reggies, but you felt like you were a fair way from the action, IMO anyway.

which is not good because the visitors centre was rubbish for photography!

It says it was formerly known as the visitor centre, which seems to mean it’s the same spot, which is not good because the visitors centre was rubbish for photography!

they’ve two main runs that run parallel,27R/09L & 27L/09R although there is a third smaller runway which is always never used the exception in extreme cross winds maybe?

I think it was 23/05, but it is no longer a runway.

Well, if they decide to make that spot official, let’s just hope they won’t ban spotting elsewhere around LHR. Because the spot proposed would face the sun most of the day, only be good late and summerdays only.

My hope is that BAA will allow spotters at the top deck of the new T5 parking garages. That should be at around the same height as the planes on final approach to 09L (or is that 27L, keep mixing them up). Get some winds from the east and that spot would be ace!

Also, check the directions of the proposed “new” spot.

Please remind me, how many runways does LHR have?
