Hey everybody. As some of you know I work in a baggage tracing office here in DUB and want to get your opinion on a few things. The reason for this is unfortunatley Ive had 2 not so much arguments with passengers but dissagrements over the time it takes to get bags from the aicraft to the baggage belt this week.
The first was an OK flight from PRG a 737-400 with quite a fullload. Bearing in mind its bulk loaded and most Eastern Europeans tend to travel with rather heavey bags.
Its took about 25 minutes from on blocks to when the belt started. Cetainly not as fast as I have seen it done on other days but is that in your opinion a long time?
The second example was last night a LT A330 from CPT with 308 passengers on board this time a containerised flight- 12 to be exact as well as 2 loose loads.
The first bag was on the belt 17 minutes aftre the flight went on block. The process of offloading the bags was reasonably fast with some gaps in the between as empty containers were moved and full ones took there place.
The final bag was delivered about 1 hour and 10 minutes after the first one.
The main reasons I ask these questions is as already mentioned I had a few complaints and second Im hoping for promotion this year and want to know if the baggage delivery is really that slow.
I would really appreciate some fo your comments on this subject.

Thanks for all your responses. It turns out we arnt that bad aftreall!!!
We also handle Flybe and Luxair and both operate small aircraft into DUB and they always ahve their bags in 15-20mins.
I quess those who give out are just people who like to give out.

No i wouldnt describe that to be a long time at an airport the size of Dublin.
Id say a ridiculous amount of time for the offload of a domestic or inter-eurpean flight is from 45mins to an hour to offload 160-200 bags. Anything under that i wouldnt complain. If i was on a short domestic flight of half an hour forty mins and have to wait the same time for my bags yes id be peeved.
Delivery times to the reclaim area can be a bit hit and miss depending on many factors. Many passengers who complain often dont understand the logistics of it all. Yes more men could be thrown at the offload but would that be financially feasible to the handling company to have an excess of staff to offload bags when the airlines pay the bear minimum these days for this service.
Generally pax dont notice how long in takes for their bags. Once they have cleared immigration, done the standard run to the toilet, rang family/friends to say they’ve arrived time suitably passes until the first bag arrives on the belt and then spend the next period of time bag spotting and such dont really notice what times past.
17 and 25mins isnt really long enough to justify finding someone and complaining to them. By the time they’ve done all that they’ll find they’re luggage has already arrived and been going round the belt for a few mins whilst they’ve been complaining. Id be pleased if it took that long.

Longest I have had to wait for a bag was 90 mins at LPA
The shortest was 8 mins – you can’t beet good old LCY for speed, they really do have it sorted

Not sure what the fastest I’ve had is, but I do remember one year landing in TFS and an exactly 1 hour later standing on the baclony of my hotel, bags included!

Personally the EI, BD and FR bags at Dublin seem quick to me. BHD can have a similar wait time for bags and they have a shorter distance to travel and more available operatives “per bag”.
I find LHR to be bad especially if they do not park on the normal stand (102 from BHD). I have waited up to 1hr 40mins at LHR but average is 40mins
STN i have waited 3hrs 30mins in 2002 for bags (due to collisions between bag vechiles on the ramp we were told) but generall its around 40-1hr mark of arriving on blocks.
Most regional airports have been reasonable but BHD is quickest ive had. BFS can be either extremely quick or very slow.
I found American Airports (DEN, JFK, LGA) all good with bag times and YYZ was quick enough from memory (heavily delayed flight :()
Lufthansa semed very efficient as have flown them couple of times. Bags with LH have always made their connections onto international or regional flights from the LHR-FRA route. For example we had 25mins to catch or JFK flight due to late LHR-FRA service. Bags arrived at aircraft before we did (they had closed doors prior to boarding)
