Hi
I was told that on Thursday 11 Jan the cross runway was used at Heathrow due to the very strong winds , is this true does anybody know ??
I thought they stopped using it a few years ago, even then it was very rarely used.

I imagine the large buildings at the 05 end would cause a bit of a problem if it was used (which it wont be)

No, there is no such thing as Runway 23 at Heathrow, hasn’t been for a few years. Even for a few years before it was officially withdrawn, it was a runway in name only, as we had deleted all the ATC procedures for its use.

cant have happened. Because if it did how would LHR cope for a few hours with just 1 runway. And how would most flights take off.

Nope, completely closed, so someone was telling you porkies.
I landed on 27L at about 14.30.

AIP Showing it as Taxiway Alpha, no runway officially there now, so i doubt it would be allowed to be used.

I thought runway 23 offically ceased to exist, and is now a taxiway?
