Man escapes Police custody onto apron at Dublin

Dublin airport was thrown briefly into chaos this morning after a man escaped a gardai escort and ran on to the airfield.

The airfield was closed between 6.30am and 7am after the 21-year-old Georgian, who was being escorted on to a plane to Frankfurt, ran on to the tarmac.

Gardaí assisted by the airport police and authorities carried out a search of the airfield in an effort to locate the man.

When he was not found on the site, the airfield was re-opened.

There were no flights diverted or cancelled as a result of the incident, however, some flights did experience half hour delays.

Surely, this doesn’t say much for security at Dublin Airport. If this man has somehow managed to get out of the airport, getting in would be just as easy.

If I was incharge of airport security I wouldnt mind anyone leaving the compound but would be critical of those entering. I get your point fully but I think if he had been trying to gain access to airside he would not have suceeded.

Important thing is did he gain access to the terminal? Unlikely he got out through airside access gates. Would be too easy to mix in with the passengers on an arriving flight into Alpha or the new fangled portaterminal north of Alpha.

2 were quickly caught on the airfeild but the other man managed to get home and was got there.

Gives a whole new meaning to the term “airside tours”

Shame he didn’t take a camera with him. Imagine how good the photo opportunities would be!
