Boeing Co. is expected to announce Thursday that its aircraft sales soared to an all-time high in 2006, exceeding the record 1,002 orders in 2005.
The Chicago-based aerospace giant saw a late rash of orders that pushed its net sales to 1,040 aircraft for the year, said sources, confirming a report in a Seattle newspaper.
Boeing was double-checking its numbers, and the final tally could change slightly, cautioned a person close to the company. A Boeing spokesman declined to comment on its sales totals.
Prior to 2005, Boeing had never sold more than 1,000 aircraft in a year. Now it has achieved that mark for two years in a row, and is expected to eclipse archrival Airbus SAS for 2006.

Anybody know when Airbus officially closes their order books for 2006?
