Air Berlin orders 75 boeing jets!

Its 60 738’s and 15 737-7’s !

The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] is delighted that German airline Air Berlin intends to purchase 60 Boeing Next-Generation 737-800s and is also identifying an order placed earlier this year for 15 737-700s. The combined value of the 75 airplanes is $5.1 billion at list prices. Air Berlin and Boeing are in the process of finalizing the order for the 60 airplanes. The 15 737-700s were purchased by German airline dba and previously accounted for on the Boeing Orders & Deliveries Web site, but were not identified. Since then, dba has been acquired by Air Berlin.

Air Berlin also has 10 unfilled 737-700s from a dba order announced in 2005. Consequently, Air Berlin expects to take delivery of a total of 85 737s, starting in November 2007. All 85 737s will be equipped with Blended Winglets, which significantly improve fuel efficiency.

When finalized, this will be the largest 737 order in German aviation history. Air Berlin is Germany’s largest low-cost carrier.

This takes boeing upwards of 900 jets sold from jan-1 to today. The deal would probably not be updated till next thursday though.

Hmm…with a number of Airbuses also on the way to AB, i found this a bit suprising this morning!

Just what I thought mate!

Excellent news for Boeing all the same. The continued success of the 737 is just astonishing, and proves what a fantastic aircraft it really is.

-They have operated Boeing 737 (still do) and these 737’s will replace some of the older models as well as leased aircraft in addition to add room for growth .

– Boeing continues to reduce 737NG cost and a favourable exchange rate probably meant that they offered a very competitve price

– Airbus is jam packed with A320 orders so it could have meant that boeing was able to respond slightly better (they are over booked aswell) to the slots

-Hunold stated in the past that Air berlin should not become a one manufacturer airline

With this order boeing’s 737 total for this year will come to 636 (the orders wont be updated this thursday as they will most likely sign up on the weekend) which will be the best year of sales so far (surpasing last year) .
