EGCC 13th floor multi storey, closing?

Just read on spotterswiki http://www.spotterswiki.com/index.php?title=Manchester_Airport_%28MAN/EGCC%29 that the 13th floor of the multistorey car park is closing for maintenance on the 19th Nov.

Do any of the MAN locals know when it will be re-opening? I’m visiting the airport on the 23/24 and hope to the high heavens that it’ll be back open by then.

thanks 🙂

Mmmm. A group of men all huddled together in the corner of a dark car park. I could see why you would get the odd stare! Never mind it will be open again. I cannot see why they won’t put the cafe back though. Does the car park get that busy that they need the few spaces it takes up?

I know that Lance regularly takes shots from the level below, and I have done so myself.

I have never noticed cars constantly passing, if you position yourself at the end then it is very quiet.

The levels under are too dark, and cars constantly passing with people giving eyeballs are an annoyance.

Is there any reason why you don’t just go to the next level down? I know tht there appears to be netting across the “windows” but you could still poke your lenses through it.

The latest word (from Alan in the Snack Bar) is that the planned closure has been delayed by another week.

You get a good view of the runways, and of the aircraft parked between T3 and T1 but you get NO views of the rest of the airport you have to wait for the aircraft to either taxy past you or depending on what runway is in use taking off.but if you are there for a good part of the day it is good , no good for the quick dash for a number.

I see 🙂 cheers paul, when some news appears that it has re opened I think I’ll be taking the train down 🙂

What exactly are they doing with Level 13? Will spotting there no longer be possible?

They are repairing the surface up there ,and it is long overdue,Has Lance said before it will be closed for the duration of the works.
I suspect that spotting will be allowed on the top when the work is finnished.has it was before the shop and brew cabin was there.
There will just be no seats .or shop or more importantly no where for a chat and a brew. 😡
Looks like back to inside the terminal in the winter, and using the AVP when the weather gets better.
Iam OK i drive and have a car,but there is lots of spotter’s that dont drive and the AVP is a long walk.

Was open last week no probs whilst i was waiting for my AA55 flight, tho as Lance points out the work has started, and was a pain, as i walked up the stairs (which is faster than the lift :D) only to find i had to go back down the stairs, to find that the area was sealed off!

The maintenance work has already begun and half of Level 13 is already closed.

The Snack Bar on Level 13 is closing permanently and the TAS Shop is moving down into T1 Arrivals – again, permanently.

I think you can forget all about Level 13 on the 23/24 November, and it’s by no means certain that spotters and photographers will be tolerated there once the maintenance work is complete.

I’ll try and find out more at weekend and I’ll post an update on here.

The end of an era………….. 🙁
