Took a trip down from Sydney to Temora last weekend for the Temora Aviation Museum’s last flying weekend for 2005. It was my 1st time shooting an airshow with my EOS 350D and it showed. Luckily I was able to attend both days so was able to fix up some missed shots.
Temora Aviation Museum is located approx 500km South West of Sydney and was the home of No. 10 Elementary Flying Traing School during WWII.
All of the aircraft in this museum are airworthy and fly regularly and on flying weekends the museum also hosts other aircraft that display.
This weekend the HARS Constellation, Catalina, 2 x C47’s attended along with Matt Dennings CAC Boomerang and one of the RAAF Museums 2 CAC Winjeels. Unfortunately Col Pays Kittyhawk was unable to make it due to servicabilty issues. Not all aircraft displayed each day due to maintenance and pilot availablility.
Some initial photos with more to come once I finish processing them.
1. Meteor F8. (Halestorm)
2. CAC Boomerang.
3. Ryan STM
4. Tiger Moth with suitably attired pilot.
5. Ryan STM airborne
6. CAC Boomerang startup.
7. CAC Boomerang and Lockheed Hudson
8. Lockheed Hudson
9. Lockheed Hudson
10. Spitfire MkVIII
Comments/Critiques welcome

Nice to see the Catalina still flying; I remember when I used to see it (in its water bomber guise) here in Chile in the ’80s when it was operated by ASPAR

Thanks RobAnt,
I see your point re the size of #2. I looked at it on my daughters PC which has a smaller screen resolution than the one I use to photoshop just now and straight away see what you say. I’ll keep that in mind for future edits that are to be posted.
My shots are not in the same league as Glen’s but at least as I learn I have Glens’s great examples as a standard to aim for.

I have been playing/learning more with PS so I have tried re-editing one of my original shots.
Is this a better edit than the original in message post #1?
To be honest Wardie, and for what it’s worth, the first version was better, because you resized it down to about 800x – this one is too big, so all the imperfections in it are easily visible and you have to scroll to see some parts of the image.
What you’ve also done is to reduce the file size. Jpegs use a lossy compression algorithm, so you tend to lose detail the smaller the file is, if you couple that with a physically larger picture you can see that detail is going to be lost.
You also tighened the crop, so there was even less information to work with.
Having said that, you and Glenn have posted some smashers here.

Looks like Temora has really put together a first-rate collection of aircraft, world class!
Shame it’s so far away from where so many of us live.

Anyone who wants to ‘improve’ their digital photos and don’t have the dosh to buy Photoshop should try Irfanview and PhotoFiltre.
They are both freeware, ie they are FREE! Install them both and you can do just about anything with your pix. Irfanview prog has a lot going for it including slideshows but has limited retouching features. However, you can access PhotoFiltre – which has many more features – from within it.
Great for retouching old pix. Download them from the net. Loadsa plugins are available, too. Have fun.

Thanks Archer,
I am still new to Photoshop and have a lot to learn. I really need to send the wife and kids away for a weekend (or a week) so I can sit down and play till 3-4 in the morning with it. At present something always comes up while I am trying different things and I never seem to get it all the way there.
Regards
John

7 & 8. Ryan STM (which do you prefer, colour or B&W)
I like the B&W version, but had a bit of a play with the levels and contrast as I found your version a bit ‘flat’. It is no big difference, but B&W happens to be something that digital photography is not all that good at 😉

No, that wasn’t me 🙂

Hi Glen,
You must have had VIP access to get those great shots. I will have to try harder next time.
Were you the photog that I asked “do you do weights” in the main hanger because of all those huge L series glass you were carrying?

Thank you Anna,
It was a steep learning curve. Most of Saturdays pictures of the Meteor and Canberra were wasted and they didn’t fly on Sunday so I couldn’t fix my errors like I did with the others. Just means that I will have to get to the next flying day in Jan.

Thanks taylorman.
I actually looked up the spelling from another web forum (reputable). I’ll have to do more cross checking next time.
