I remember visiting BHX for the last ever Cup-Winners’ Cup Final at Villa Park on 19 May, 1999.

Despite the fact that the CWC was very firmly third in order of precedence among UEFA club tournaments, the place was packed. :D:D:D

Now I say this with my aviation photographers hat on of course hoping for foreign aircraft to visit…

Let’s just hope that no British clubs get to the EUFA Cup final for a couple of years. 😮

Yes,true. but if you remember over half the aircraft at GLA were bringing in ticketless fans to crowd out the city,to watch their team in the biggest club final on the planet, IIRC in 2004 UEFA final was at Gothenburg (Valencia v Marseille) seem to remember there was about 12 football flights and some biz.
Not slagging the uefa cup, when Celtic went to Seville it was fantastic, but, it really is nothing compared to the big one.

I think there’s every chance MAN or GLA will see massive air traffic for their respective UEFA cup finals?

As evidenced before it really depends on exactly which two teams make the final, how passionate their supports are and how well connected the respective teams/towns/cities are to the main european airport network.

Tell that to the two teams who make the final…

Indeed, + Hampden holds the same amount of fans for a UEFA final as it does the CL final.

Afraid there won’t be anything near the traffic GLA,PIK and EDI got for the CL final, the UEFA cup is just nowhere near as prestigious as the CL final.

In MAN’s case there will be less as I think the City of Manchester stadium is smaller than Old Trafford. In GLA’s case I think we can expect the same as a few years ago as its at the same stadium so obviously same capacity.

Well the Rangers fans won’t need to fly to Glasgow 😉 Just take the train to mount florida…:P

Gaz

Yea, they can get the train to Mount Florida and watch the game in a pub on Vicky road.

The closest Rangers are getting to a European final is on the playstation 😉

I’m guessing there won’t be as many flights as there were back in May, 2003? – That was just amazing! 🙂

2010 final has been promised to Dublin as long as our new stadium is finished on time.

That’s still a higher capacity than Anfield or Goodison Park though, isn’t it?
