Hello all,
I just got back from another nice trip to Spain which I did with RogerS. We went to Cuatro Vientos which is an airport near Madrid. The FIO held a flying day last weekend and here are some pics:
To start, some pics taken the day before the event.
I visited the FIO’s workshop and saw this:
The Beech 18 nearing the end of it’s restoration:

One of the FIO’s Stearmans:

The T34 mentor is progressing step by step:

Many FIO planes took several of their planes out for some testflights. Also some rarely seen planes got an airing such as this B.A. Swallow:

Best way to ge there is on the first sunday of the month when they perform an airshow. It is a 2 hour walk from the C.Vientos museum ( I did that the first time ), but now I take a taxi from downtown mMadrid to the “Aero Club””, an historic building with a small tower on top. The static is before this building. Later. around 12.30 they start flying. BW Roger

Nice pics Stieglitz 🙂
Is this where there is a museum? If so, is it far from the city centre and is it easy to get to?

And this was also the last display at the flying day.

So, I hope you liked this. I do hope to go back to the FIO in the future and maybe I’ll post some more Spanish classics then.
Cheers,
Stiglitz

Now for the show itself:
Making a welcome static appearance was the FIO Polikarpov I-16 Rata which recently arrived from New Zealand. This original Rata is airworthy and is expected to fly by early 2006.

Just before the start of the flying program, the Polikarpov was towed back to the hangar:
