The chief commercial officer of FlyBE told the World Low-Cost Airline Congress yesterday that the airline would like to start charging passengers who do not check-in online. Apparently they see ancillary services such as this as a way of increasing their income.
I find this a bit starnge given that the airline still sells through GDS’s and allows interline transfers, will a passenger arriving at MAN from EWR have to pay to transfer flights to SOU?
I think that the LCCs will have to be careful, their yields are dropping, not least because the incumbents have sorted out their costs and dropped fares, but they cannnot get too carried away with charging for various elements of the flight or else they will eventually push pax to incumbent traditional carriers. BA could do well out of this kind of move!

Yes this is a bit much. Next it will be pay £5 and well give you your bag back at the bag reclaim.

Even though i use OLCI when i can, i’m against this move 100%, if it does happen!
Many people are still scared of using computers, or dont want to use them, and would rather use the old-fasioned Check-in. There was quite a long queue at T3 at MAN 2 weeks ago for instance, most of them were elderley passengers, who turned up their noses at the self-service kiosk, when approached by a BA worker! They wanted to use the old way instead
