FlyGlobespan axe two routes

London Stansted to Chambery
Liverpool to Prague

Wonder what will be their next route to be axed. Prety sure it will be from one of the English airports as they do next to no advertising for these flights.

Just seen the following on Pprune, FlyGlobespan are reportedly going to begin flights to Toronto for summer 2007, using Boeing 757’s with 189 seats:

Belfast – weekly Thurs departure
Birmingham – weekly Wed departure
Doncaster – weekly Mon departure
Dublin – to be released on Fri 15 Sept
Edinburgh – weekly Fri departure
Exeter – weekly Tues departure
Glasgow – DAILY departures throughtout Summer 07.
Liverpool – weekly Sun departure
London Stansted – DAILY departues throughout Summer 07
Manchester – DAILY departures throughout Summer 07.
Newcastle – weekly Saturday departure
Shannon – to be released on Fri 15 Sept

Really is incredible expansion from GSM at the moment! Shame my local isn’t included… :(.

I would also pick GSM and Glasgow’s main airport any day over FR at Glasgow’s second airport.

Well I think that on routes with great potential like Scotland-Poland there is room for 2 airlines even if one of them is FR. If I had to fly GLA-KRK and GSM offered a fare higher than that of FR Id still take the GSM fare.

FlyGlobeSpan have ‘suspended’ service between LPL-PRG due to ‘runway maintenance’ at Liverpool.

I would also really like to see GSM open-up Eastern Europe from Glasgow. Budapest would be great and a strong possibility imo. However I don’t think GSM will fly to Krakow as Ryanair operate PIK-Krakow.

I think GSM would do verywell if they started like LS some flights to KRK and maybe BUD which is underserved from airports outsideLondon in the UK.

Also VNO and RIX may be worth a go. DUB has 2 sometimes 3 daily flights to RIX and Ive never seen a load below 50 and thats in the height of winter with 3 airlines on the route so Im sure it would be a money maker for GSM.

I was in Liverpool last weekend and this route was being advertised on the side of buses. I wonder if the new daily Tenerife service will go the same way?

Yes, I agree that the city-break destinations do seem to be problematic for Globespan, however I’m sure that if they committed to a bigger advertising spend on the continent then these routes would attract the two-way traffic they will need in order to be viable. Ryanair and easyJet know that the business doesn’t just come, and that you have to get out there and push your product. This is where I think Globespan has fallen short in the past, but hopefully they will address this for the future.

Ryanair seem to be pretty successful on the Italian flights from Glasgow Prestwick and Easyjet have mentioned Glasgow to Milan so there is definitely a market.

GSM just don’t seem able to make the “city” routes work for them…
Edinburgh to Madrid – axed.
Edinburgh to Venice – axed.
Edinburgh to Prague – axed and then re-launched.
Glasgow to Paris – axed.
Glasgow to Amsterdam – axed.
Glasgow to Prague – cut back.
Liverpool to Prague – axed

Their could be more that I have forgot about….?

Yes, I think you’re right about Venice, and it was possibly two or three years ago, however I think Globespan could give it a better shot this time as they are much more widely known in Scotland than they were even a couple of years ago, and they also have more aircraft at their disposal now. Jet2 has identified Italy as an up and coming market for Scotland, so hopefully Globespan will follow suit.

Flyglobespan really should stick to Scotland. So far their short haul ventures south of the border have not been a roaring success.

I’d love to see them start new routes such as EDI-VCE and EDI-MUC. I know the Spanish resorts are Flyglobespan’s strongest market but I’m sure if they put their backs into it they could make a success of more city-break destinations from Scotland.

FlyGlobespan have already operated EDI-Venice it was dropped last year, or the year before.

It would make sence for the to just expand more from GLA because it seems they dont want to spend money in England on advertising.

The Manchester – Cape Town route is very widely advertised in Manchester, but maybe it’s the exception that proves the rule.

I don’t think FlyGlobespan will fly to Lyon from Liverpool, they don’t fly their from anywhere else. To be honest GSM probably done know where they will fly to next.

Is it true that Manchester to Cape Town has been cut back in frequency?

The PRG route from LPL was one that had been waited for locally for a long while, however as said above, if nobody knows about them then who do they expect to fly on them!

It’ll be interesting to see what they fill the void with – could this be the gap for a Lyon rotation???

To be honest I wasnt even aware they operated those 2 routes!

I’m pretty sure not many people did. They really need to start advertising down south or just simply stop flying from English airports.
