Prestwick military flights to israel.

Not sure if this should be in here or military forum but here goes anyway.
There has been a kickup about the U.S. sending ammunitions through Prestwick, probably on the likes of Atlas Air and Evergreen, to Israel.
Locals to the airport are moaning about the bombs flying around above the community and the air traffic controllers are becoming more ‘uncomfortable’ about handling these flights.
Just wondering what you all think about it. I think that we shouldn’t condemn this practice as it is bringing money into the local area and keeping people in jobs ( i know these flights aren’t solely responsible for that). So no matter what, these flights are going to happen even if they have to go through Shannon or where ever. So surely its better that we benefit from these flights than another country/airfield?

But Middenhall is RAF?

James

British USAF stations are still referred to as RAF stations such as RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall.

This kind of cargo i think should be sent to a military airfield when there transiting through the UK Middenhall or Lakenheath.

If it’s carried in accordance with IATA Dangerous Goods regulations there should be no problem….even Munitions of War can be carried on civil aircraft with appropriate permits…

It’s another case of Mr Bush treating his allies with arrogant contempt unfortunately. Whatever your views on the war etc, he really shouldn’t be sneaking this kind of cargo through a civilian airport.

The more this happens, the more PIK becomes viewed as a military establishment and the more it becomes a target for extremists and nutters.

I understand some kind of thin apology has been issued by ‘Dubya’ ?
