Oops. Anyone know where a 747 skipper can find a new job?

Apparently happened on 16th July or there abouts in Madrid.

Yet again shows the strength of a Boeing!

just to add in that Press release

The Corporate Communications Department of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) provides clarification on the incident involving THAI’s aircraft flight TG 943 routed Madrid –Rome.

On Saturday 15 July 2006, at 11.45 hours (local time) flight TG943, utilizing Boeing 747-400 aircraft, scheduled to depart Madrid to Rome, was taxiing on the runway at Madrid airport and collided with a wing of Air France’s parked Fokker aircraft. As a result of this collision, the tips of the right wing of THAI’s aircraft was damaged.

An immediate investigation into this incident has been conducted by THAI’s Technical Department. A repair of the damage has also been conducted by THAI’s technical department which has now been completed and the aircraft is now back into normal operation, scheduled to depart Madrid on Sunday 16 July 2006 at 11.45 hours (local time) and will arrive Bangkok on Monday 17 July 2006 at 06.45 hours (local time)

The flight was carrying the total of 240 passengers on board. There has been no report of any injuries in the incident. Hotel accommodation were provided for some passengers, while alternatives flights were arranged for other passengers.

The Aviation authorities of Spain is conducting an investigation into this incident. The progress of the investigation will soon be reported to the public.

THAI would like to reassure all customers and public that safety of passengers and aircraft is airline’s top priority. THAI has continually developed and maintained to offer the highest standard of safety and quality services and products.

Aside from it not being a Fokker, it dosen’t exactly look like it hit the wing to me, either (although it may well have been the Aileron that was hit)

from what I’ve been able to gather from the press, the 747 was taxi-ing to the runway for departure of the first leg of it’s MAD-FCO-BKK flight, but entered a taxiway that had been cordoned off to large aircraft due to building work, when it hit the AF jet, which was awaiting it’s pax.

Can you imagine your bus pulling up beside that whilst you’re trying to board?

Having said that, not sure how much credence you can put to those reports, as the official Thai Press Release said it hit an AF Fokker…

On the other hand the 747 may just have sliced through the 145’s tail.

Or the 145 taxied through the Jumbo’s wing.

Hard to tell…

No that hard, the damage to the 744 winglet is at the front, which would indicate the 744 taxied into the Embraer, the only other way would be if the Emb was pushing back but then there would not have been enough force and the push-back driver (is that what they’re called lol?) would have seen it and been liable, would love to have been a fly on the wall at the meeting with the chief pilot 😀

Does it affect his No Claims Bonus

Does the culprit have to declare such accidents when he tries to renew his car insurance I wonder…..

Can you imagine the Emb 145 pilot’s description of events on his insurance claim claim form..”There I was, minding my own business when I felt a jolt, heard a loud bang and my tail fell off, as some ruddy great 747 comes out of nowhere and hits me up the jacksie..”

Impressive, and as I’m not a regular around 747s up close and personal, great way of showing its size with the EMB sitting beside it!
