Fly Globespan re-open Edinburgh to Prague

Edinburgh based Airline Fly Globespan announced flights between Edinburgh Airport and Prague Ruzyne will re-commence Winter 2006.

EDINBURGH TO PRAGUE
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday flights
02 November 06 – 23 December 06
From £29.99 one way inc tax

Flyglobespan, Scotland’s low fares airlines, are to resume their Edinburgh services to Prague by offering three flights a week to the Czech capital this winter with prices starting at only £29.99 per sector including taxes.

Starting in November, flyglobespan will fly every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday to Prague which is one of the most popular city break destinations in Europe.

The airline is very familiar with the Prague market. They used to operate flights there from Edinburgh and have maintained a year round programme from Glasgow.

The decision to re-open their Edinburgh – Prague route is part of a much extended winter programme from the capital which has seen resorts like Tenerife, Faro and Lanzarote added to the winter sun programme and the launch of a new six-day-a-week service to increasing popular ski airport Chambery.

“We are very pleased we are able to resume an Edinburgh-Prague service,” says flyglobespan chairman Tom Dalrymple. “Prague is a destination which appeals to a whole cross section of the travelling public – and the pre-Christmas market is particularly active.”

The company halted their previous Prague service because of a lack of available aircraft – but now that the flyglobespan fleet is much bigger the capacity is there to restore a service.

“Now that we have more aircraft, it is a logical choice to get back to Prague from Edinburgh and I am sure it will prove popular,” says Dalrymple.

The Czech capital literally has something on offer for everyone. The beautifully preserved historic city has stunning architecture and many famous sights such as Wenceslas Square, Prague Castle and Charles Bridge.

Czech hospitality is legendary and visitors are guaranteed a warm welcome to the trendy bars or cosy traditional restaurants. Prague is also famed for its pre- Christmas markets which are among the best in the world.

Flights begin on Thursday November 2, and will also run on Saturday and Tuesday.

As with all flyglobespan routes, Edinburgh – Prague passengers will have the option of buying flights only or choosing the complete holiday package with airport transfers and accommodation. All flight details and prices are available from today on their web-site http://www.flyglobespan.com.

Edinburgh Airport Managing Director Richard Jeffrey welcomed the flyglobespan announcement saying:

“Edinburgh Airport is delighted that flyglobespan has decided to reopen the Edinburgh service to Prague. It will give passengers flying from Edinburgh even more choice, and we look forward to working closely with the airline to ensure the success of this service.

“The Czech capital is an increasingly popular European destination for weekend city breaks. The re-opening of the route in November will enable more people to make the trip to experience the city’s famous Christmas markets.”

I didn’t realise CSA were a legacy carrier, they were actually cheaper than any other airline from Glasgow/Edinburgh to Prague.

I flew to Prague last New Year on Czech Airlines from Edinburgh and have to say they were excellent. I believe that the CSA service was the reason GSM ended their service in the past. I don’t suppose that there is enough demand for GSM and CSA to serve the same route.

Can’t say they will compete much on a 3x weekley service, with the frequency/price etc loco’s can easily move established carriers off a route.

Eg – CSA pulling out of BHX because of competition on the route from WW.

I wouldn’t expect this guy to acknowledge the fact that they are indeed an Edinburgh based company, so no surprises there.

Good news anyway, even if it is only planned to be operating until the end of December.

Maybe so, but as far as the business goes they are an Edinburgh business, although probably more of a throwback to the rest of the Globespan business rather than the airline itself.
I believe it is cheaper to operate from Glasgow?

The vast majority of their flights are from GLA.

Actually not, their head office is in Colinton, which is just down the road from my Campus at Napier University, Edinburgh.
