Took me a while to twig that this is Castle Donington!
Nottingham East Midlands Airport in other words!
Not so easy for us foreigners!

i dont know if i can explain this very well, but here goes.

NEMA has a footpath that runs more or less right around the airfield, which you can follow.

to get to it. the way that i know is to go to the rwy 27 end. if you come from the terminal, walking towards rwy 27, exit the terminal car parking, past the petrol station, and shortly beyond that turn left and you walk down the road that runs parallel to the eastern cargo apron, past business park buildings on your right, and cargo facilities on your left. walk all the way to the end, past the express holiday inn, turn left at the roundabout, and there wil be a patch of grass with the entrance to the airport footpath/walkway.

walk all the way along the path, past the smelly sewers (not nice on a hot day of course, so mind yourself). what you will be doing is heading towards the perimeter fence and the very end of rwy 27. the A453 is on your right. youll eventually come to the point with the landing lights, and an emergency access gate. the aircraft on final to 27 will come low over you – ok for photos.

this is the route, roughly, from the terminal to the entrance to the airport trail (the entrance that i know about):

if you then go back on yourself, this time sticking close to the perimeter fence, almost walking along it, you should be able to pick out a path – its more like just a path of well trodden grass – the grass around you does get quite long and spiky. follow this right along until you come to a mound – basically the end of the path. this will put you in a wonderful view of the rwy, with the taxiway to the end of the rwy passing no more than 30 metres in front of you – 767s, 747s, and most 737s will taxi straight past you.

the mound where you stand is placed back from the fence so you are not right up against the fence, and as long as you dont use something like a ladder for better views (not really needed to be honest) you shouldnt be bothered by security.

you will be standing moreorless on the location of the ‘old’ Aeropark, before it was moved to its present spot:

the spot is used quite a lot, providing views like this, and is good for videos as well. :

some of my photos (notice the lame plug 😀 )
from the end of rwy 27:

shots from both location:

from the two locations, the second one is best for videos – you can see aircraft touchdown really clearly, and you can see aircraft do their take off runs

a bit long-winded but i hope that helps
