Heres the press release from aerarann.com
21st June 2006, Aer Arann, Ireland’s leading regional airline today announced further expansion within Ireland and the UK with the introduction of three new routes effective from Monday, 2nd October 2006. The new routes include a domestic service between Cork and Galway and two new services from Cork and Galway to Leeds Bradford in the UK. Fares on all three routes will start from €39.99 one way including tax and the services will be operated by a 66 seater ATR72 aircraft.
The Cork to Galway service will operate five days per week from Tuesday to Friday and Sunday with an afternoon departure from Galway and evening departure from Cork. The new service will enable a day return trip for business passengers by connecting through Dublin in the morning and availing of the direct return service in the afternoon.
The Cork to Leeds Bradford services will operate four days per week departing Cork at 2.20pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday 11.00am on Sunday with a flight time of one hour thirty minutes. The return service will depart Leeds Bradford at 12.20pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 1.00pm on Sunday. The Galway to Leeds Bradford service will also operate four days per week departing Galway at 10.30pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 1.00pm on Sunday with a flight time of one hour twenty minutes. The return service will depart Leeds Bradford at 4.30pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 2.50pm on Sunday.
Commenting on the announcement Micheal O’Callarain, Marketing Manager, Aer Arann said “These new routes represent further significant expansion for Aer Arann and will form part of our winter schedule. Over the last ten years, Leeds has transformed itself from a northern industrial city to one of the most vibrant and successful cities in the UK, with thriving finance, business service and retail sectors and we are delighted to be launching two new services to the city.”
He added “Our new internal flight between Cork and Galway comes as a result of strong demand from the business communities in both regions. It will enable passengers to complete same day return travel in each direction which we believe will be popular with commuters.”

Assigned seating, Much more comfortable seating, and even little things like at DUB, a much shorter walk to immigration. Just something about EI that feels better.
Quite right. The non-assigned seating with FR & EZY really annoys me & the seating & cabin environment was far better with EI than FR when I travelled on both in February.
Keeping on thread, Aer Arran, when I travelled with them, seemed a very functional & professional low-cost airline (and they assign seats 🙂 ) and I wish them every success.

Really? What do EI offer above FR? Correct me if I am wrong here, but you still have to pay for drinks etc and at the end of the day, all you want on a short flight like that is a seat, nothing more & nothing less.
I flew on both airlines in the same day lately, and EI at least from my experience were far far better.

I would pick EI anyday, but I have no problems flying FR.

Aer Arran seem to be announcing routes every week at the moment, it seems. (I suppose these new ATRs they ordered need to go somewhere:). More good news for LBA whose route network becomes more interesting all the time.

Personally, i’d like a complimentary Tea and biscuits 😀
Seriously now, its great news, Aer Arran are expanding at a rapid rate, and its great to see how an early on the edge of bankruptcy just a few years (or whatever) ago has become one of Europes Regional success stories,
Anybody read the AW article on em’ – very intersting airline indeed.

Aer Lingus are starting NCL to DUB and yeah its a much better choice than Ryanair if you can get a similar priced fare

It would be interesting to know if BMI opted to cancel their LBA-ORK service before they found out Aer Arann would be competing. BMI are axeing their flights from the 30th June. Good luck to them.
