I hope none of you were out buying BA shares this morning in the hope of making money on them when EK buys them out LOL :diablo: I really have no clue where this rumour will have started from!
Emirates denies plotting BA takeover bid
London (15Jun06, 10:53 GMT, 165 words)Middle East carrier Emirates has denied it is investigating a takeover deal for UK carrier British Airways in a bid to widen its portfolio and geographical reach.
BA shares rose by more than 4% in early trading on the London stock exchange today after overnight speculation of a bid for the airline by the state-owned United Arab Emirates (UAE) flag-carrier.
The UAE is keen to become a major player in the global aerospace, aviation and airline sector and Arab investment in companies has increased in recent months. BA would offer the cash-rich airline a global network to complement its Dubai hub for Asia-bound flights.
Shares had fallen back to £3.51 at 10:45, having risen from £3.41 when the markets opened at 08:00 to a peak, shortly afterwards, of nearly £3.60.
Emirates vice-chairman Maurice Flanagan has denied that the Dubai-based carrier is interested in acquiring BA. Flanagan told financial television channel Bloomberg: “We have plenty of other things to be doing.” BA was unavailable for comment.

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask, but how is the new Jebel Ali airport construction doing? Going to be the biggest airport in the world is it? Dubai’s a riot, it’s going under way too much expansion.

So ‘London Airways’ could become ‘Dubai Airways’ ? 😉

LOL, yes, Dubai would become the new Atlanta! In the US there is a running joke that even when you die, you must chnage in ATL on your way to heaven!
