Loud, Late Plane At LBA…

Hi All,

I have to ask this question because I’m intrigued. Around 5 minutes ago, at 22:50, Saturday the 10th June, something very, VERY loud flew over my house 8 miles south-west of LBA. It sounded almost like a 732, but lounder. I’m puzzled. According to the LBA website the last flight departed at 22:35, and it was a Thomson flight to Ibiza, which I very much doubt would be loud enough to rattle my windows (unless the pilot decided to do an ultra-low fly-by over my estate).

Does anyone have even the slightest idea what it was? A YAK again perhaps? Any information is greatly appreciated. There were 3 of us LBA locals sending texts saying ‘what the hell was that?!’

Paul

It was nice to see the 2 saudi hurc’s. I followed the crew out in their minibus and they had a lot of gear with them so i think they may be here for some time.

So that’s what it was! Thought the FR 732s were back. Only been on a VC10 at Duxford – what did impress me was the amount of room in the passenger cabin, especially the headroom.

This last weekend rwy 14 was in use for most of Friday and Saturday and the increase in flights was very noticeable, as was the Jet2 757 which decided to cut the corner somewhat following departure to save a few minutes and a splash of fuel! From my back door I can usually see the side of the aircraft, this 757 passed directly overhead!

Tonights Jet2 Palma service again operated by 2 B737’s according to the LBA live arrivals. LS258 has landed at 00:00 While an second flight from Palma was due at 00:35 as LS258.

I realised that tonight’s Jet2 Palma flight departed 5 hours late, and instead of arriving back at 23:20, it is now estimated to be in at 03:45.
Does anyone know the reason for this lengthy delay? More problems with the 757 perhaps?

As an aside, I recall a colleague (ex BA VC10s) telling me that, compared with a Standard VC10, the 757 carried an extra 100 passengers for half the fuel burn (approx 3.5 tonnes per hour, compared with 7 tonnes per hour with the VC10!)
Noisy, gas guzzling dinosaur, but still one of the most elegant jet transports ever designed.

They let you go on a VC10 at a Farnborough show! Your lucky if you get to go up in a helicopter these days!

Not exactly, it was LHR to LHR, last B.A. flight, no airshow in sight ! 🙂

I saw the VC10 coming in last night. It came in from the East over Cross Gates on down wind for 14.

I know the VC10 does use a lot of thrust because the one i went on last summer at Brize Norton, used a huge amount of thrust. When you are sat on it you can not feel it as much because the RAF ones have their seats set the opposite way. (so you face the rear of the aircraft)

It does use a lot of thrust and it is very noisy. Watched one take off at Halifax, Nova Scotia last year and there was nobody sleeping in the vicinity of the airport. Also flew on the last B.A. VC-10 enthusiast flight when they were retired. The plane was full of course, but light on fuel and the pilot really enjoyed the beat up of the airfield at Farnborough, certainly pulled some G on the pull up! 🙂

It sounds like it could be the Flyglobespan machine or it could be the flyjet which is currently sat at MAN??

Definitely won’t be the GSM B763 as that is now fully utilised doing GLA-SFB.

I was one of the LBA regulars texting about! Was incredibly noisy, thought that Ryanair had brought back one of their 732’s for us!

I’ve been saying to Paul lately that Jet2 seem to swapping aircraft round alot, G-CELI and G-CELA were at LBA on Friday, not regulars, and G-CELC and G-CELS were at MAN yesterday, generally LBA regulars!

I deleted that post 20 minutes after relising I’ve never actually heard a VC-10 take off. 🙂 How long did it take you to compose that reply?!

Anyway, that aside, the one that flew over my house last night had certainly not left the runway in the last 20 seconds, and it shook the windows in my house.

Paul

😀 A long time lol I had to go and do something which took me 10 mins to do  .Was there at VC 10 in a LBA at all?
