I heard about the runway extentions, is that so ncl can take larger aircraft?
This is a quote form the masterplan
“The Masterplan includes consideration
of runway length and capacity. It makes
provision for a possible short runway
extension to the eastern end of the
airfield after 2010, subject to a business
case being made. This is aimed at
overcoming operational constraints
encountered as a result of the presence
of Callerton Hill at the western end
of the airfield. The Masterplan also
provides for a range of potential
taxiway improvements.”
I don’t really understand that to be honest but at a guess I would say it is for larger aircraft.
Regards,
Jon

Well… From what is on the website and a friend at the tower, there looks like there a few airport developments on the way. We have the proposed extended runway (at the 25 end, which at the moment is still in discussion with local residents, for example should the road go under or around!), new stands to be built (including a new site for the flying school and a cargo area I believe) and a new control tower which is currently in development now. There are also new airpspace changes which would include SIDs and maybe STARs, these are primarily for new noise policies. In mid July the NEW VOR will be decommissioned as it would ‘get in the way’ of the new TWR, this mains VOR DME approaches are no more and climbouts will be contolled by the ILS system I think. A good read would be http://www.newcastleinternational.co.uk/Documents/MasterplanSummary.pdf although most have probably read it.

Jon
P.S best of luck with the interview you had!
