I use another forum site which is for Florida Villa owners, and someone posted the following on the site today. I dont know the answer, but im sure some of you guys on here can answer it !
This is what they posted…..
“Does anyone have any personal experiences to share using the new route being offered by Thomsonfly from Robin Hood Airport to Sanford. The planes seem to be ex Britannia which according to Boeing’s website were refitted last year. I’ve booked to go in a few weeks (after voing never to use a charter again) as the price was very attractive.”
Thanks
Jamie

I think if you just left it in your signature saying “My Forum” or something like that, that would be fine?

If the moderators wish that I don’t post it that is fine. There are plenty of other links to other sites on these forums. I am not asking anyone to leave this site either. Likewise I will add a link from that site back to this Key forum site.

Tfly have 2 767-200s BYAA/B which are fitted with the engine normally fitted to the 300 an unusual engine airframe combination and which gives these two aircraft stunning field performance enabling long range flights to be undertaken off short runways compared to the standard 300 series or the the 200 series fitted with the older engines. So if a charterer typically a cruise line is willing to pay to have these aircraft operate a particular route they get them.Routine operations from LBA with all its attendant problems/weather most probably not economic or it would have happened.LBA is the most demanding airport to operate heavy jets from in the Uk sad to say for all you local enthusiasts.

LBARULES is near the mark.
All of the other contributors have a woefully inadequate understanding ( if any) of the performance decrements of a 757/767 on a pitifully short, high elevation runway.
It cannot be done on a regular basis from LBA.
So it can be done this week, but not next week?
I understand that the runway at LBA has its constraints and that a couple of hundred metres of extra tarmac wouldn’t go a miss, but it is possible.

AFAIK the runway isn’t currently long enough to offer regular departures! Thomsonfly are focusing on their DSA base at the moment, so isn’t surprising they are flying to Orlando from there instead.
This is incorrect. Thomsonfly operated direct flights to Orlando on behalf of Sunset Holidays a few years back. The flight operated fortnightly throughout the summer. It didn’t last because the passenger numbers were not good enough. Hardly suprising given the flight was only announced around Christmas time. Funny isn’t it that Thomonfly can operate Long Haul from Leeds with other tour companies, yet the runway is too short for Thomson Holidays??

Long enough for regular routes. Suppose you probably mean on poor weather conditions such as winds etc it wouldn’t be able to make Orlando direct.

Howcome LBA don’t get an Orlando route. Don’t say our runway isn’t long enough. The 767s are going to Barbados quite often.
Surely pax numbers would be high.

The aircraft are Britannia 767’s, Britannia have been renamed Thomsonfly. AFAIK, the 763’s have not been upgraded, just the 757’s and 767-200’s.
