It started out so nice, but in the 13 years I’ve been going to airshows, SLR equipped, I don’t think I ever experienced such bad lighting conditions. Since I really dislike grain, I didn’t want to go beyond ISO 200 settings, which towards the end of the show resulted in 1/20th shutterspeeds! Luckily this worked out quite well in one particular case. But overall the “harvest” from this otherwise splendid shows was much worse than it could have been. Such a pity the clouds conspired against us right when the show commenced.
Well, what can I say… better luck on 2 October? 😉
I hope the following shots are mildly entertaining afteral. I’ve tried…

And here’s the shot with 1/20th of a second – handheld without any support. A new personal record 😀

…not counting this shot of one second at 800 ISO – handheld with the aid of a bin.

That’s it I’m afraid. Some more here, but they’re really not worth it…

Thanks a lot everyone 🙂
I am using an EOS 300D with Canon EF-III 75-300mm F4.5/5.6 lens. The lens is a stand-in until I have decided what proper lens I will buy. My old 100-400 broke down some time ago and the 75-300 placeholder is quite poor for airshows.
And yes, the Spit was indeed landing (at supersonic speed so it would seem :D)
PS. Notice the gathering of flies(!) on the shadow side of the white fuselage stripe of the Mustang – visible as dots on the first photo. I guess they were happily waiting for the “ride” 😀

Superb piccies.
The Spitfire Take-off looks stunning! Well Done!!!
I agree, a stunning picture especially as it was at 1/20th..
But I think with full flaps, it is landing….
Skyraider3D can you tell me what gear you are you using?
