Hi.

Was using 08R today in spite of westerly winds, so managed to get the following.

Tom – Yeah we took off at 0857z so over an hour before you got there. Shame!

Greekdude – Fairly common in the charter world due to the high density fit they employ and requirements for evacuation limits. Both Excel’s have 2 overwings (ex BY aircraft), Maxjet have a combination and I am sure there are others. It is totally dependant on the original customer.

What’s the story on the Thomson 762 with 2 overwing exits as opposed to the usual 1?

Excellent shots Tom. The A310 looks interestingly strange from side on!

Tom – Did you get any of G-BNYS at all? It was me on my way to SSH and back. Would love to see them if you did.

Sorry no. What time was it about from? I was there from 1100 to 1250.

Nice shots, Tom.

The map will come in handy, too. I’m planning a long-overdue jaunt to LGW in the near future. 🙂

Here’s a little map. Basically take the inner perimeter road that takes you past the 26L flightpath & the maintenance hangers, then walk down the A23 (dual carriageway), then cut through an Industrial Estate until you come to a ‘Travellodge’. Then head parallel to the runway down Charlwood road and it’s about 15-20 minutes from there – you’ll pass a pub on your left, plus BCP parking on your right, just before the road swings north to go under the flightpath.

Brilliant now printed that little map and will now use it on the next visit to LGW .

Thanks guys

According to www.transportdirect.info the ‘Surrey Connect H4’ bus runs from LGW North Terminal Arrivals to the Greyhound Pub in Charlwood, leaving at 20 minutes past the hour and taking 10 minutes.

From there a 5 to 10 minute walk should have you at the end of the runway.

Return journeys go from the Greyhound Pub to LGW South Terminal Departures, leaving at 4 minutes past the hour and taking 11 minutes.

I’ll try and check for you guys, but I would imagine there must be buses that go from the terminal to the nearby village of Charlwood (which is visible in the top left of the Air Southwest photo) or Ifield Green on the edge of Crawley. Either of those would then just be a short walk from that end of the runway.

Leave it with me.

That looks a fantasitc place to spot from,is there any way of getting there from the terminal?

I walked it in about 40 minutes in the snow 😀 . I imagine it’s a nice walk in the summer though. It’s straight forward to get to, but there is little in the way of paths and there is a busy dual carriageway for a few hundred metres, but there is a grass verge to it which is perfectly safe.

Hi James

When 08R is in use, I go to the crash gate at the end of the runway. Luckily there are plenty of gaps to take photos in, plus approach shots are good as well. Difficult to get to without car – car must be parked down the road parallel to the runway, otherwise it’ll get moved away by security. Here is a picture of it: http://www.planepictures.net/netshow.php?id=465611

Unfortunately the weather was crap today so photos are not as good as they could have been.

Having said that, it is a good spotting place.

Tom

Thank you Tom is it easy to get to that place

Excellent shots! That Etihad 777 is particularly special and nice to see G-DOCN thrown in, too – the only aircraft in that selection that I have been on.

I’m currently in the process of booking a Thailand adventure for October and the two most likely airlines (because of price) that I will be flying with are either Qatar Airways or Etihad. Although Qatar is rated 5* and Etihad only 3, I’m hoping for a ride on that superb looking 777 between Abu Dhabi and Bangkok!

I wonder if Ryan International was the livery being talked about in the recent thread trying to identify an unknown livery at LGW.
