At long last I’ve managed to sort through some of the photos I took at MAKS 2005, and put together a highlights page.
I’m not normally a fan of airliners, but I’ll make an exception when they put on a display like this Tupolev 334:

No classic Russian bombers or transports on the weekend, unfortunately, but more Flankers and Fulcrums than you can shake a stick at, like this Su-27SMK Flanker:

An Su-30MK:

And this MiG-35 Fulcrum (aka MiG-29OVT) with two-axis thrust vectoring to allow it to do the “cobra”, the “bell”, the “somersault”, the “double somersault” and probably even the “bump” as well:

Foreign displays by a B-1B Lancer, Italian Air Force G222 and this French Mirage 2000:

No Mi-24 Hind, but plenty of Kamovs to make up for it:

Jet display teams from the French Air Force, Italian Air Force and no fewer than three Russian jet display teams. The highlight had to be when the “Russian Knights” in their Su-27s and the “Swifts” in their MiG-29s flew together:

Visit the MAKS 2005 Highlights page for more photos and full commentary.

Andy,
It was a real disappointment not to see the Bear and Tu-22 flying during the weekend. I don’t even remember the Bear being in the static section, was it?
Richard.
Hi Richard,
sadly the Bear was not in the static section. 🙁
The flying program of the bear was only on Tuesday 16th by the official opening by President Vladimir Putin. During an half hour time it was presenting all the hot stuff from Tupolev, Mikoyan, Kamov, and….. 😀
That was a superb opening of MAKS’05!! 😎
cheers Andy

Superb pics, well done!
Is there any reason why the Tupolev Bear never goes to other airshows?

Now me, I love prop driven fighters. I will watch Historic Jets with interest. Watch Modern jets if persuaded. As for airliners??? I normally use them for holidays…
But this shot is one of the best I have seen for a while… Amazing… love it.
Thanks for posting it…..

Fantastic photos. The mixed formation of 29’s and SU27’s is very impressive.
