Quiet Turboprops?

Whatever happened to quiet turbo[prop airliners? I well remember travelling on Vickers Viscounts years ago. They were wonderfully smooth and quiet.

Then, in the air force I carried out transit servicing on Britannias. We could stand under the wing and talk to each other with all four engines running!

An ATR42 has just flown over. It sounds like an aerial chaff-cutter…

Bri

I like props to be noisy. There is nothing to beat the Fokker 50 as it powers up, I could listen to that all day (no kidding!) Also Fokkers are great fun to fly in.

Same here 😀

I like the Antonov-24 – it sounds like being on a WW2 bomber although the burble of the engines had a strange sleep inducing effect (that and half a bottle of Vodka).
