SQ confirm daily non-stop MAN

The local rag (in their new enhanced business section) has an article celebrating the 20th anniversary of SQ at MAN including confirmation that the service will go daily non-stop from next year, the introduction of 3 classes (and I was led to believe by all and sundry that there are no 1st class pax up here!) during 2007, and the prospect of the service going to 10 weekly should demand be there.

Is the 3 class service new to MAN, then? I flew on SQ’s 772ER from AMS to SIN four years ago and it was a 2-class aircraft.

According to the Star Alliance timetable, SQ operates 5x weekly non-stop from SIN into MAN (and back) with a 772 from April 8 this year until late October. They operate twice weekly via ZRH on a 744.

Thats right, but they’ve operated the 5 non-stops for a while now, its the 2 stopping services which will change in the first instance. SQ have been present at MAN for a long time now.

Does Lance not mean 777-312ERs?

Lance is a firm believer in not pushing his luck…… 😉

Does Lance not mean 777-312ERs? The exisiting flights operate quite full, so dropping the 2 one-stop 747s in favour of 2 non-stop 777s should increase MAN capacity by around 10%.

MH were attracting 8 to 10,000 passengers a month so there is still a biggish market for Thai to tap into, depsite this SQ enhancement and the planned EK introduction on 773s on EK19/20.

However……I wonder what would happen should the fuel prices stabilise and then reduce with regards to a return of MH, as I’m positive that if MH has 5 777s a week instead of 4 747s, it would probably have made their service less prone to “heavy” losses, with prices being squeezed upwards with a slight reduction in overall capacity

Could this be the rumoured advent of the SQ B777-212ERs at MAN? 🙂

I assume this is partly down to MH pulling out. Maybe also trying to stop Thai starting MAN services in the future?
