BMI News

A couple of interesting things going around today

1) BMI are starting LHR-Moscow

2) Lufthansa may be forced to buy BMI!:

So who would operate the Birmingham and Liverpool flights then?
Hopefully BMI will have some success on this route 😀

Now with bmi british midland now getting this route licence to operate the Heathrow -Moscow service. I wonder if they’ll let Cathay Pacfic operate the the long awaited Manchester-Moscow-Hong Kong Service???

Afterall it was bmi who objected against it last time around.

No they won’t, they’ll object even more now, due to pax MAN-LHR-SVO probably!

There has been a huge amount of politics involved with these Moscow flights, not “just” at government level either, within the airlines themselves. I think we’ll have to wait another ten years for Michael Bishop to write his memoirs before we have any idea what really happened.

As for the opt out clause, that has been in the contract since I think 1999 or maybe earlier so really isnt anything new. Take just a brief look at pprune, and you will see that bmi is clearly currently the airline of choice to be focused on as the “problem child” at the moment.
