There is a rumor going around that Jet2 are considering NYC as a new destination. This rumr also cam from one of my college teachers who used to work at LBA and has close links. now obviosly they would need better aircrafts but it would be good. any way any one else heard or can confirm?

What the odds on Jet2 getting a 767 for LBA-JFK ops ????
Perhaps a 767-200.
Yep, their is commanality between Boeing 767/757 a/c but how about the 737-700/800/900 flying transatlantic, in theory it can be done.
i doubt it would, nothing good ever happens these days, LBA will never get a USA service
the LBIA chiefs already said that he expects a New York, Islamabad service in 3 years
Airlines like CO, DL rely on connecting passengers for these type of services alot, Jet2 would have no such connections.
Codeshare with JetBlue, 😀
I understand that JetBlue and RyanAir are thinking of Transatlantic flights, anyone heard this??

Can a LBA-JFK service sustain just NYC passengers?
I’m not saying it can’t but the likes of CO use the regions, so that there is a possibility of onward connections at EWR.
Would the service just survive on NYC visitors only? Or would they look to codeshare with someone on the other side of the pond. A c/s with JetBlue would be good! :p
I think thats the most sensible post in this thread so far.

We would all love to see a service begin, if it ever DID happen, I would prefer an airline like Continental, for the reasons listed above.

Flybe codeshares with Continental on their New york flights

Guys – some comments are dreamland here I think.
We’d all love Jet 2 to run the route, and maybe one day they will, but a point to point service from a regional airport will be tough to make profitable. Add a 767 to the equation as Tommy questions and its even further off the mark. Code sharing is a possibility, but I can’t think right now of any lo-co that code shares?

Type commonality with the 757-200 – so it would be the logical choice.

Suppose loads would depend on fares. If very attractive-it could do well. Its open skies from regional to US isnt it ? or would the big American carriers have something to say about it ?
Yep and not just from the regionals – in fact everywhere but Heathrow, hence why LGW has US, American, Delta, Continental.

highly unlikely i think, but would be a very interesting development if it did occur
By: philgatwick05 - 15th March 2006 at 16:08
I’d love to see that start!

is LBA runway long enough for a 6/7 hour flight? I know they can make Canaries but thats 4/5 hours and i was under impression Canaries flights were pushing it….
Well our runway can handle a 762 direct to Barbados and thats less further than NYC, so JFK or EWR shouldnt be a big problem.

You know, they had a survey about New York-LBA flights last year, and we haven’t heard anything about it since then.
PF wouldn’t know much. He even thought the Jet 757’s on the fist day were 777’s!

Risky considering so much competition from BA, CO, PK and new DL services from accoss the pennines! Could be possible though with a 757ER.
