From Airliners.net
As per the Swiss Travel Trade Magazine “Travel Inside” (todays newsletter), Swiss will lease an Airbus A300-600 from Hapag Lloyd and will use it on the sectors from ZRH to SSG, YAO, DLA and NBO/DAR. This will make available the needed additional aircraft for the 2nd JFK flight operated by Swiss which will start from 01 May 2006. Flights to NBO/DAR will also increase in JUN to 4 iso 3 rotation a week.
…
Justed posted it for anyway who is intrested in Swiss 😀

I’m a big fan of the A300, probably one of my favorite Airbus types (I don’t know why, probably because it’s the first Airbus type I ever flew on). Don’t mean to hijack this thread, but when is Swiss OFFICIALLY joining Star?

I wonder will swiss bother to paint it in full colours, there’s too many A300’s wearing bland white schemes already.

So they get an A300-600 from LH. As HF (Hapag Fly) has leased one from LH and wants to end the lease early.

The first picture is an ancient picture, when they did regularly operate A300s.
The second is the one and only A300 currently in the Hapag fleet and its not even theirs- its leased from LH

Its a case of the A300 being the only suitable avialable aircraft. Sceond hand long haul aircraft are in very short supply at the moment

One reason why this would be big news is because the 300-600 is an old type. They are the same as the planes used by Onur for charters and LH for dense European routes. Quite a step back for Swiss since they normally got new equipment, until Swissair went bust that is.

Not sure why this is big news… Is it something about the A36?
