understanding airfield ops

Hi all

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions for any books / web-sites which would help in better understanding how airfield ops work, so i can get a better handle on the stuff i hear at MAN on my scanner.

I do understand the general sequence of events from requesting push-back and start clearance at allocated time, through Ground handling to tower clearance for line-up and roll etc,etc. I also have a basic understanding of ATC and landing circuits etc from playing FS 2003

What i would really like is a plain english guide which could give me some greater depth on what happens behind the scenes with all this (with a bias towards english airfields particularly)

I dont, however, want anything toooooo in-depth or nurdy – i am not studying to be a pilot !! 🙂
