Hi there! I want to attend Farnborough Air show this year and it is my first visit to the air show so I have a few questions to anyone kind enough to help me:
1) Do I need a ticket for each day, i.e. if i want to attend on Saturday and sunday do I need two tickets?
2) Is the extra money for the Grandstand worth it? Or is the view from somewhere else as good (to see the flying display)
3) I’m arriving from Germany, is Gatwick the nearest International airport?
4) does anyone have recommendations for hotels/youth hostels/B&B?

We have grass space available to pitch tents on. Located 5 mins from Airshow for only £10 a night or £50 a night including tent 😀 Full Shower and Toilet facilities available onsite.

Your list looks pretty correct, there will be a proper list published around May time, but the exhibiting aircraft changes right up until the day of the show.
The interesting two are the A380, and the Bell Osprey.

There will not be a list published for some time yet AFAIK. A380 is confirmed for sure along with a babybus i think.

Sorry to ask these questions with perhaps very obvious answers but is there a list of aircraft to be seen at this years air show in the static and in the flying display? I searched their site but didn’t find anything. I’m assuming Typhoon, Hawk, Gripen, Lynx, EH101, various Airbus (A380, A340-600?) and Boeing planes and many more, but is there a exact list?
Thanks for the help btw, it is getting along and I’m confident of finding accomodation somewhere sometime soon.

Lakeside Hotel and Potters International are the two main local ones. I would be very surprised if they had any rooms but always worth a shot.

😮 This is the shocker for me. I hadn’t expected that, I’ll still try to get something in Farnborough but I thought i was early. 🙁 But London is okay too I guess.
The big companies like Airbus and Boeing and BAE and the rest know they will exhibit no matter cost so will block book hotels around time the airshow finishes 2 years before. Hence its hard to get rooms. I managed in May 02 to get one for the place where the darts are held – Mark L knows – i got one of last few rooms.

Yep, Mark seems to have covered it all…
I’ve been to the airshow now 6 times since i was a little lad 😀 and we always book a hotel about 20 miles from the airfield but thats the advantage of transport, getting there/back etc.

2) In my experience no not really, you can get just as good views from elsewhere. Bearing in mind everything is at 600ft or higher, being 20ft higher yourself doesnt have that much advantage.
Okay thanks.
3) Heathrow is the closest airport with a German service, 2nd closest is Gatwick.
Big surprise, didn’t know that.
4) This was covered a month or so ago on here. Basically anywhere nearby will be fully booked now. You will have to get quite creative to find anywhere with any spaces anywhere near the show, and a commute from London is usually easiest. Its a 40 minute train journey from the centre, with free shuttle buses to and from the airshow to the station.

You’ve answered your first question.

Okay I’ve found out now that one needs a ticket each day.
