Ryanair Liverpool – Londonderry

Am i correct in saying that theyre using an Eirjet airbus? I was sitting in RE class yesterday and heard the whiney noise of an airbus (i think) and when i seen it, it was a white aircraft with a green tail. But because i was seeing it from the other side of Limavady i couldnt make out what it was.

Does anybody know what it is?

Thanks,

Dan

Nothing has been said about Derry for a while. From memory it was left at they were submitting a planning application and the residents were opposing. Thing was 7 homes and farmes need to “dissappear” to make way for runway extention. The residents say its not justified due to no airlines like flybe wanting to operate from Derry.

I honestly cant see them doing anything for at least 5-10 years. They barely have enough fire cover as it is for the airport. If your aircraft lands short of runway 26, youll be please to know the hovercraft can take 8 people at a time. Very reassuring for a 140 seater aircraft!

They have the fire service in Limavady (and possibly other towns) to do the baggage handling and obviously the fire cover 😀

londonderry is the same as derry – depends on which part of the town you come from – some people call it different things

I don’t blame the residents, you know what RYR are like, they’ll probably keep issuing ultimatums for as long as it takes. LDY is a nice little airport with potential but got to be on the lookout for seagulls and the train(!) and the approach to RWY26. Nice to hear about the hovercraft..just as well, don’t like the look of Lough Foyle at this time of year for sure.

RE the A320 on Mon, probably but not 100% sure. I’m not sure if it has the pax restriction or not.

Watched the LPL-LDY-LPL come and go across the radar this morning, was it operated by the EIR A320?

Dont Formula 1 cars use carbon brakes???? If so those things are prone to explode when they get to a certain temperature. Although Im sure they would be checked and replaced regulary.

I think so hence the orange glow when they’re applied. I could be talking rubbish here but I wreckon they only explode (and boy do they explode) when they are used excessively over and over again with a high outside air temperature.

There’s an interesting if a little technical article from Flight International which shows various improvments coming to the 737NG including the brakes. A 350kg saving means about 4 additional passengers will cost zero to the airlines to fly around – nice for RYR. However I notice they say it could take longer to cool so probably a bit of a dilemma for MOL 😉 .

I also think carbon brakes are fitted to most Airbuses – not sure.

Of course these upgrades should have been in from the start but Southwest wanted commonality first. 😡

When is the next blue moon?

Yeah, I don’t know too much about the situation at LDY. Are you from that neck of the woods? I guess I wouldn’t be impressed if they wanted to knock my house for a runway extension. I wonder if it’s even feasible with the proximity of the two Belfast airports and I suppose that’s why RYR are testing LDY to EMA and LPL. Time will tell.

When is the next blue moon?

It’s the brakes by the way – the higher the takeoff or landing weight the longer the brakes need to cool. This limits the passenger numbers and fuel capacity unless you stay longer on the ground. There’s talk of carbon brakes being added in 2008 so that might improve things if the runway isn’t lengthened by then.

Well I think that confirms what I was saying when people said that Ryanair 738s couldnt do routes longer than Ireland out of LBA ;).

Yep, of the 2 Eirjets, one ops for Ryanair 7 days a week and other does mon-fri returning to DUB on the Friday night to operate their charters.

The runway at LDY is borderline for the 738, but its not the engines. Ryanair have the -7B26 fitted which is the uprated version of the engine(climbs like there’s no tomorrow). The problem is more to do with the short turnaround, have a guess, it begins with B.

Hmmmm this is strange. Eirjet have an absolutley packed charter programme out of Dublin on saturday and sunday. They have 3 A320s in their fleet and I have just come from work were we handle EJ. In the last hour they have had 3 flights arrive into DUB 2 from Plovdiv and 1 from Bergamo which are being operated by aircraft from various carriers like Transavia, Flyjet and Eagle Aviation I think.

So basically EJ are leasing out their own aircraft and leasing others in for their own work!!!! Does that make sense????

Are Ryanair doing what they did with the Stansted route in only filling so much of the plane because of runway restrictions?

I believe the problem related to Ryanairs engines being slightly derated to save fuel? Hence they have to block off 40 odd seats from sale.

Derry can easily accept A320s as the runway is 23m longer than Belfast City. They would porbably need to use TOGA when departing and med auto brake (on landing) but during summer odd FCA and MYT has been to Derry before on a charter.

Sure aren’t 738’s the only type Ryanair use? Apart from the A320’s
