B.As confusing on line ticket booking

Hi members.

Thought you might like to know how confused I am with buying a ticket on line with B.A.
I had a go at booking a flight from Manchester to Larnaca ( Via Heathrow ) for 2 adults, got a price of well over £1,300.00.

However, If I book seperate flights ,ie, Manchester-Heathrow the cost is only £84.00 for both of us, then I book Heathrow to Larnaca and the price is £389.00 for both of us.

The inconvenience of course is having to wait for your baggage then check in again for the Heathrow – Larnaca leg.

Anyone know why it is so expensive booking Manchester-Larnaca via Heathrow as a single ticket, rather than booking 2 seperate tickets ??
Hope that makes sense.
Any B.A. staff reading this,. please enlighten me and maybe others who visit your web site.

This is not a dig at B.A. I am actually a big fan of the airline as I have never been let down by B.A. before and my flights have always been virtually on time.

Cheers

This is one thing I cannot not understand though, how is that the LCC’s can afford to sell the seats as such a low price, and yet still make a profit…

Because they don’t sell more than a handfull of seats on each flight at the prices they shout about. I remember some time ago booking LGW-TLS-LGW for a friend and got Club Europe on BA for considerably less than I could have booked EZY.

Nordjet, I’ve just tried various dates in Feb and Mar and got the same price as MarkL, £555, on all 4 of the dates I tried.

I think the thing to do is never discount any carrier as being more expensive…instead, search them ALL. It is a common mistake that people make when booking fares with an LCC, they just ‘think’ they will be cheaper.

And on your comment about searching ALL the airlines…good luck, but you’ll be there for hours if you search them all… unless there is a site that compares all flight fares (Sched/Chart/LCC)…?

I know you are a BA fan, but can I suggest you look at charter airlines (i.e First Choice – I am sure they operate scheduled services to LCA. If they don’t out of MAN, then they certainly do out of LGW!)

I flew BA to Larnaca for my brothers wedding a couple of years ago, when I was living near LHR. Their flights were £5 more expensive than with the cheapest charter carrier, and of course we got food/drink and ents thrown in. Given that it would cost me more to get to LGW than that £5 at the time then I flew BA.

£1,300.00 – how much?

I would be very interested to know how it arrived at that figure…?

That reminds me of the woman who used the RAC route finder service to go to Devon, it recommended her to go via Ireland and France on a 2 day drive!

What dates are you searching? I’ve just run a test through for a booking in February and got £555 for 2, which seems about right?

If you did go for the option of booking 2 separate tickets BA would check you in for the entire journey at Manchester anyway, so that isnt really an actual concern.
