Transatlantic Flights with the Boeing 737-800 / 900?

Could the 737-800 or -900 ever be used for trans-Atlantic flights? Presumably the range of the 900 is getting quite close to making trans-Atlantic flights possible. I know the 757 is used, a bigger aircraft with greater range but the same, single aisle idea as the 737.
