Love was quite literally in the air on Friday at Café Mihoko. Situated in the departure lounge at Newcastle International, became the venue for the airport’s first ever wedding reception.
The happy couple, Karen and Ian Weatherburn from Cramlington got married just an hour earlier at Newcastle’s Civic Centre before arriving at the airport for the formal wedding reception in the terminal’s new departure lounge.
The pair, together with 25 of their closest family and friends, enjoyed a sumptuous oriental-style wedding breakfast set against the backdrop of the airport’s busy runway, before jetting off with all their guests in tow for a week on the winter sunshine island of Tenerife.
The airport’s Marketing Manager, Sue McClellan said: “It may not be everybody’s idea of a romantic wedding day venue, but we’re delighted to have played our part in their special day. More and more people are choosing imaginative locations for their wedding celebrations, and with their honeymoon flight taking off from Newcastle International, in many ways it made perfect sense!”
Michael James, manager of Café Mihoko, which hosted and catered for the wedding party, added: “It’s been a real treat getting involved in someone’s happy day. Karen and Ian were delighted with their wedding breakfast and left with our sincere congratulations. Mihoko is not just a healthy lifestyle café, we can cater for most occasions.”
After the traditional wedding day speeches, champagne and banquet were completed, the pair cut the cake as aircraft departed and landed in the distant background, before heading off for what promised to be an equally unforgettable honeymoon along with all their guests!
