EINDHOVEN – The regional airport at Eindhoven, part of a military airfield, wants to handle 2,5 million passengers in five year. A very large number for a Dutch regional airport. The engine behind this growth is Ryanair. “Ryanair has put us on the map” says airport director Bart de Boer to Dutch news paper NRC.

The Irish airline, that handles part of the business flights at EIN, wants to make a base at EIN where part of its fleet will spend the night.

At the moment Ryanair has 14 such bases that are all interconnected. The reason for this desire to grow is not just because of the capacity for growth at EIN. The airport also qualifies to all demands for speedy turnarounds.

From 2006 EIN will get two based 737s. Later another two might be added, according to a Ryanair spokesperson.

I am happy to see EIN growing. Even though Ryanair is the devils airline. 😉

Not that long ago EIN has opened up a new terminal, which is probably part of the reason for the Ryanair growth.
